JUNO BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A badly injured sea turtle that underwent a year of rehabilitation and innovative surgeries was released Wednesday by caretakers hoping he finds a mate and helps his endangered species prosper.

Andre, as the 177-pound green sea turtle is known, crawled into the water and swam out of sight before a crowd of hundreds of raucous supporters. He was near death when he was found split open and stranded last year.

Yes, it’s a nice story about how all the professionals used their specific talents to heal this turtle. Question is, how much did all this cost?

Conservatives can walk and chew gum at the same time.

“innovative surgeries”...yet there are hundreds of thousands of Americans who are in dire straits medically. Is being a turtle covered under Obamacare?

Liberals are only the Culture of Death where humans are concerned. Animals must be spared at all costs.

Glad for the turtle, I just wish they cared about babies the same way.

That is because they are done behind closed doors. Very hush hush.

Turtles get better healthcare than humans.

What a country!

The Cloven Hoof Society does everything behind closed doors.

Sort of like young condors in California being released only for people watching to see one immediately killed by a bald eagle or some other bird of prey like happened several years ago.

When Andre was found stranded on a sandbar on June 15, 2010, he had gaping holes in his shell, the result of two apparent boat strikes. More than three pounds of sand were inside him, along with at least a couple of crabs, a raging infection and a collapsed lung. His spinal cord was exposed, pneumonia was plaguing him and death seemed certain.

Ironically, an Obamacare death panel would have killed him.

Its a nice story and probably we have learned a lot from experimenting on this turtle about scientific surgeries and rehab that may ultimately help humans or other animals...whom we still depend on for food.

For God’s sake, why would there be such a deluge of negativity.
I saw this as hopefully helping all medical progress and inspiring us to care for ALL the creatures of earth...not being sentimental here. But God has given us dominion over the animals, and to care for them when it is possible.

Yeah, sure, its just one turtle...but within this story is a spiritual message of compassion. Conservatives care about the environment too, perhaps more realistically, but we do have a reasonable responsibility.

Now, go ahead and flame away about how much money we spent and how people are sick , blah, blah. I would much rather spend the money on the turtle than buy another cell phone or HDTV for a welfare queen that doesn’t deserve it!

Wow, didn't take long for this one to get hijacked.

Sorry, I can't get worked up over abortion until entitlement spending gets wrangled in and cut big time.

There’s more than one cause out there. People can be passionate and involved in more than one cause, and the one they are involved in the most may not be the one you think is most important.

And the people saving the turtle are not the same people ripping babies apart for their livelihood. If you want to blame people, blame the proper people.

I understand what you’re trying to say but don’t rip other people’s good works down because they aren’t doing something as important as you think they should be. There’s enough hurting and need for help at all different levels in this world.
