Aw, Thank you. It was from my First CD, so naturally I have a warm place in my heart for it.

"I grieve for my nation"

I do as well, Meg!!

Well here's an experience that hit home today!
I was having lunch at a local resturant.
There was an eldery couple next to where I was sitting.
His cell phone rang and I couldn't help but overhear some of his conversation.
"I have recently lost my business and my home is in foreclosure"!
I couldn't hear anymore, but I think it was a call from the IRS.
My heart went out for them and I wanted to say to them how sorry I was, but I didn't want them to know I overheared! Your are right: May God Bless and "Guide" Us! Yesterday was a hard day for all of us, especially for you putting together the thread! Again, thank you so much!!

I hope he was merely putting off a fund raiser!
;o)

Times are hard right now..so it could have been a bill collector.

You are welcome, pam.

Here’s a Plan

About 2 years ago my wife and I were on a cruise through the western Mediterranean aboard a Princess ship. At dinner we noticed an elderly lady sitting alone along the rail of the grand stairway in the main dining room. I also noticed that all the staff, ships officers, waiters, busboys, etc., all seemed very familiar with this lady. I asked our waiter who the lady was, expecting to be told she owned the line, but he said he only knew that she had been on board for the last four cruises, back to back.

As we left the dining room one evening I caught her eye and stopped to say hello. We chatted and I said, “I understand you’ve been on this ship for the last four cruises.” She replied, “Yes, that’s true.” I stated, “I don’t understand” and she replied, without a pause, “It’s cheaper than a nursing home.”

So, there will be no nursing home in my future. When I get old and feeble, I am going to get on a Princess Cruise Ship. The average cost for a nursing home is $200 per day. I have checked on reservations at Princess and I can get a long term discount and senior discount price of $135 per day. That leaves $65 a day for:

1. Gratuities which will only be $10 per day.

2. I will have as many as 10 meals a day if I can waddle to the restaurant, or I can have room service (which means I can have breakfast in bed every day of the week).

3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free washers and dryers, and shows every night.

4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo.

5. They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. An extra $5 worth of tips will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.

6. I will get to meet new people every 7 or 14 days.

7. T.V. broken? Light bulb need changing? Need to have the mattress replaced? No Problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your inconvenience.

8. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don’t even have to ask for them.

9. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip you are on Medicare; if you fall and break a hip on the Princess ship they will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.

Now hold on for the best! Do you want to see South America, the Panama Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or name where you want to go? Princess will have a ship ready to go. So don’t look for me in a nursing home, just call shore to ship.

P.S. And don’t forget, when you die, they just dump you over the side at no charge.

England’s West Country is known for its charming cottage- like shops. While visiting the area, my friend peered in through one window to see shelf upon shelf of interesting- looking books. So she went inside.

A woman appeared though a beaded curtain and asked, “Can I help you?”

“No, just browsing,” said my friend.

“Fine,” came the reply. “But so you know, around here most people knock before entering someone’s home.”

College Graduation

Both sides of our family turned out for my wife’s college graduation. After the dean finished awarding all the diploma’s, he requested, “Will all the ‘cum laudes’ please stand up?”

My mother-in-law leaned over and whispered, “Wow! The Cum Laude family sure has a lot of kids!”

THINGS TO PONDER

"To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world."

"Going to church does not make you a Christian anymore than going to MacDonald's makes you a hamburger."

"Real friends are those who, when you feel you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel you've done a permanent job."

"I don't have to attend every argument I'm invited to."

"Lead your life so you won't be ashamed to sell the family parrot to the town gossip."

"People gather bundles of sticks to build bridges they never cross."

"Life is 10% of what happens to you, and 90% of what you make of it."

"Life is like an onion; you peel off one layer at a time and sometimes you weep."

"Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't live long enough to make them all yourself."

"Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

Character Amnesia
September 13, 2011 <

It seems that young people in China are beginning to forget how to write the characters that comprise the beautiful calligraphy of their traditional language. Some are calling the phenomenon “character amnesia.” Heavy usage of computers and smart phones often means that writing is neglected and some can no longer remember the characters they learned in childhood. One young man said, “People don’t write anything by hand anymore except for [their] name and address.”

Some people appear to have “character amnesia” of a different sort. When faced with a dilemma, they seem to “forget” the right thing to do and instead choose the easy way out.

God called Job “a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil” (Job 1:8). God allowed Satan to take everything Job had—his children, his wealth, and his health. But despite his heart-wrenching circumstances, Job refused to curse God. “In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong” (v.22). Satan had challenged God’s assertion of Job’s blameless character, but he was proven wrong.

Character amnesia? No. Character is who we are; it’s not something we “forget.” Those who have a loss of character make a choice.

It isn’t the tranquil and placid seas
That bring out the sailor’s skill;
It’s the wind and waves that pound his ship
And toss it about at will. —Ritter

When wealth is gone, little is lost; when health is gone, something is lost; but when character is gone, all is lost!

Read: Job 1:13-22

There was a man . . . whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. —Job 1:1

We have a hope and a prayer
eternal life with the Father
We are tested here daily,
Is it mercy that we share ...
spreading forgiveness
everywhere ...
come let us adore our Father
all that is, is his ... Amen
