I was standing by my window
On a cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
There’s a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky....

Don’t that make cold chills run down your back?

My mom died a couple of years ago. She was born in 1920 in a little community in East Tennessee called Glen Alice. Her name was Grace and everytime I hear Amazing Grace do I tear up.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T’was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

She took care of me the first 18 years of my life and I took care of her the last 20 years of her life.

She’s with the Lord now.

To me, the best rendition of Amazing Grace is by Judy Collins.

Went back home, the home was lonesome
Missed my mother she was gone
All my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and lone

We sang the songs of childhood,
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that Mother Maybelle taught us
And the angles sang along

Can not get to these verses without tearing up. Big tough guy, crying like a little girl.

Amazing Grace is at the top of the play list at my funeral/memorial/wake/celebration. These songs touch something inside like no other can do.

I've lived in East Tennessee all my life, and that was a new one to me. It's about 45 miles from where I live. I know the area, but not the town.
