I can’t believe I too was sucked onto opening this thread let alone posting but color me guilty. My point is perspective. We may have pathetically fallen in our taste for entertainment BUT 2500 years ago they were watching gladiators butcher each other, and up to current times every sort of human and animal fighting or killing is labeled entertainment. In comparison, watching the lives of brainless beauties is rather innocent.
Amongst her crowd, that is a term of endearment.

Everyone on TV is a product. Without marketing and advertising very few celebrities would be famous for anything. They are products being sold. No different than Frosted Flakes or TIDE detergent.
You could take any plain Jane or dull Joe off the street, package and wrap them with a new persona and they could be a celebrity in 6 months. Pop music especially is filled with no talent artists.
The Kardashians are only capitalizing on their access to the right people using the system that’s been set up. They sold their family’s privacy for fame and fortune. If that’s all they have to contribute it’s better than them living off the fortune of other people. It may be tasteless but the public has an appetite for tasteless.
I can barely get Telemundo and PBS up here in the hills.

Those people became famous at some point while I was away. When I was home in 2009 (I think), someone mentioned Kim Kardashian in conversation. I had started hearing about them and seeing the name on magazine covers at the grocery check-out, but honestly had no idea who they were.
I asked "Who is she and what is it she's famous for?"
My friends thought about it and were unable to tell me.
I’m not receiving broadcasts from Brazil, either, but I’ve seen some video on the computer.
