The bigger issue is not about campaign contributions to Perry, it's about the fact that Merck hired a close Perry friend who was also his legal adviser and former chief-of-staff to lobby Perry on Merck's behalf for this vaccine.

If Rahm Emanuel left the White House and was hired by Merck to lobby Obama, and Obama turned around signing an executive order like Perry did, you'd be livid. You wouldn't buy any of the sob stories about being lobbied by cancer patients, you'd know instantly that Rahm Emanuel had something to do with it, just as Mike Toomey being hired by Merck had something to do with Perry signing it.
