I agree it is not Perry’s job to make Romney look bad. However, it is his job to make himself look good. A politician’s ability to debate is not a reflection on his ability to govern but it is a reflection of his skill as a candidate. He has been a good governor but the reality is that unless he steps up his communications skills, he is a goner from that stage.
Dukakis beat Reagan in debates.
Perot destroyed both Clinton and Bush in debates
Alan Keys destroyed W in the 2000 primary debates
I could go on and on.
Being good at debates has almost nothing to do with winning and especially nothing to do with governing. Giving a good speech is important, your presence in important, your ability to debate someone is insignificant in the election and has zero to do with the actual job.
The most important thing that happened in last nights debate, was when Perry turned and started to attack Romney (he bungled it totally, admittedly) BUT that doesn’t matter, what matters is that Perry showed his hand, and we now know exactly how Perry will attack Romney, he will hit him HARD on flip flopping and peg him as a untrustworthy RINO. And it will work, mark my words.
1% of the population watched that debate last night, and most of those were just supporters of a particular candidate, the normal people wont turn off American Idol and spare a thought about the election for some time now. But don’t worry because during every commercial brake Perry will be destroying Romney and painting him as an opportunistic flip flopper who can’t be trusted by conservatives.
You’ll see, just wait till the next wave of polls come out and Perry is still hugging 30%, and more importantly, just keep your eyes on the state polls. Because Romney will basically only win the states McCain did in 2000 against Bush.
