Good thoughts. I can see that happening.

Sarah said in her book, “Going Rogue”, that she would never run as a third party candidate. She’s also on record as saying that we need to take the Republican party back from the establishment and the special interests.

I don’t believe she wants to rip the party asunder, and give Zero even the slimmest chance of being re-elected by splitting the conservative vote.

I’ll admit that today is a rough day for Palin supporters, but I think most of us are hanging tough. I’m not moving a muscle until she says one way or another what she’s doing, or unless she fails to file by the first few critical filing dates.

What about this, though? Dems run a 3rd party candidate to get Obama elected. At that point Sara gets in as a counter-balance.

To those who think she’s positioning for VP, I think that’s pathetic. You can run for VP one time. After that it becomes a joke. For Palin it’s either the top of the ticket or nothing.

Never happen.

Here is what I think is REALLY the issue. This election cycle, for the first time, the Republican primaries will apportion delegates in proportion to the vote - no more winner take all. With three or more first tier candidates and two or three strong second tier candidates, and tossing in regional idiosyncrasies, it is likely that NO candidate will have locked up the nomination until very late in the primary process, if then. This may wind up a real brokered convention.

At any rate, unlike most recent Republican presidential primary races, this time it will not be wrapped up early. Palin can come in relatively late and will have as good a chance as anyone of going into the convention with substantial support. Clinch the nomination or not, this is how she can influence the outcome and the selection of the eventual nominee.

If she goes third party I will lose what little respect I have for some of her supporters on FR.

So, you will blame Palin supporters for her making a decision that they have no control over?

I don’t think she would do it if the Republican was running strong against Obama, but she might if the Republican was trialing by 30 points. Do not forget the medias ability to destroy the Republican candidate.

...but my only problem is her adamant defense of not needing a title. I almost thought that she was telling herself that as much as the audience.

I think that was Palin beginning the process of finding gentle ways of letting her supporters down.

Tell me you're not expecting a cogent and rational answer to that question.

If she does not run but tries to strengthen the Repub majority, does she still steal the oxygen from the potential nominee with her tweets and internet posts confronting Obama?

The thought did occur to me as I was hitting the 'post' button.

Do not forget the medias ability to destroy the Republican candidate.

There is no way that the MSM will be able to damage one of our candidates that bad. First off they are fully discredited as a group. Secondly, no matter what BS scandal they try to gin up, Obummers record is 10 time worse. Even CNN is running Gunwalker stories now. Obummer is more radioactive than any modern President in history.

Oh they are speculating the same over at Politico http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/64590.html in comments. But I highly doubt it.

Here are Sarah's thoughts on the subject: "You know what, a year ago I would have said please don't even consider third party…. I think conditions have changed in this last year…. Well, too many in the GOP are still resistant and resisting that movement of this new crop of common sense conservatives and if they're not careful in the GOP there will be a third party rise up just like back in the day when the Whigs finally went away and Republicans rose up. That is what the GOP should be fearing today…. not that I want to see that… but just the machine that runs the GOP has to be very careful."

When Hannity asked if this would not result in a split anti-Obama vote, Palin acknowledged this would be the case, then added that "if they (the GOP) don't want to see a third party run they better get their stuff together…." She added: "There are quite a few issues that the GOP had better get their stuff together on…"

As reported from http://spectator.org/blog/2011/06/04/palin-to-hannity-i-could-run-3

She is not stupid. But she knows that some in the party are quite dense and I do hope that she gets their attention if she needs to knock some heads together to do it.

Did she decide NOT to announce either way by Saturday? Did she take back that date?
