Snake Killing (vanity - sorry)
me | Sep 29. 2011 | me

So I just killed a Copperhead Snake in my front yard. I'm still shaking and it's still writhing. Thing is there were two, one in line behind the other. When I came back with the shovel, the "first" one in line had "disappeared". Where do you think it went and what do I do about it? (Please keep it relatively clean) I HATE snakes!

Are you certain it was a copperhead?

Be careful... he knows where you live. He’s probably gone back to get the rest of his buddies. Sleep with one eye open tonight. Oh, and don’t sit on the toilet tonight. They are sneaky little things.

Depends on the temperature.

If you have shrubs around your house, copperheads often move near the house foundation where the temperature is cooler. Look under pine straw, if you have it.

I’ve heard coffee grounds are handy for keeping snakes from getting into the yard...If that doesn’t work a .22 with ratshot has always worked for me! LOL

hmmmm... isn’t there some kind of snake repellant you can sprinkle on the grass? I’ve often wondered about that... something that would sting them like household vinegar or ??

Is your house built on a slab or is it on a raised foundation? I had a lot of trouble with snakes hiding under my house.

It is hiding. Most snakes want to stay the Heck away from us. Only aggressive snakes I have encountered are water snakes(poisonous and non-poisonous). My 2 cents.

No doubt under or in whatever is nearby. If there’s a good supply of small rodents, lizards etc it may stay, if not it’ll probably move on after awhile.

It won't die until sundown, so you still have a few hours.

(Old wives' tale)

Away....

Don’t worry about it, til it comes back.

No amount of guessing or worrying is gonna change anything.

Wait, is the dead one still there and the other one disappeared?

I have heard the sulphur will keep snakes away. Pour it in a line and supposedly they won’t cross it. Look up Copperhead on Wikipedia and get some information about them.

Do you have a basement where it could have gone? think about where it could have gone. They are not aggressive and usually flee.

Copperhead bites aren’t fatal.

What kind of environment was it in?If it was in the vicinity of your lawn I’d look for holes in the ground also check around the houses foundation to make sure they’re not building their dens near it.

I don’t have copperheads but I have plenty of large Garden snakes living on my property. They leave holes about the size of a half dollar coin.

I hope you can find that sucker because I sure would hate to have them nearby.

Make a shrine to Saint Patrick. He drove the snakes out of Ireland.

I caught a copperhead in my living room about 8 years ago.

I didn’t recognize it. I took it to our neighbor (school teacher) and offered it to her. She was always keeping live animals and showing them to the kids.

She freaked out when I offered her a live copperhead.

There’s a product called Snake-Away. It’s essentially the same as ground-up mothballs, and irritates snakes’ noses (or whatever snakes’ olfactory organs are.)
