Word For The Day, Monday, 10/24/11



In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

eclat; noun [ey-klah]

1.brilliance of success, reputation, etc.: the éclat of a great achievement. 2.showy or elaborate display: a performance of great éclat. 3.acclamation; acclaim. synonyms: acclaim, acclamation, plaudit, plaudits, pomp

Etymology:1665–75; < French: splinter, fragment, burst, flash, brilliance, Old French esclat,noun derivative of esclaterto burst, break violently, probably < Old Low Franconian *slaitanto split, break (compare Old High German sleizanto tear), a causative of Germanic *slitan;see slit

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

they were only 6 euros, surely were she in a higher class establishment, the tenders would have been tastier : )
they had lunch at an Irish carvery yesterday which was very good, she said.

@pimpbillclinton had a funny tweet about the McRib. he said something like--the McRib was like sex with Hillary, you look forward to it all year, and then you feel kind of sick after you have it....

We had nuggets for lunch today at the canteen. And spaghetti, so a pretty good day as far as canteens go.

Ice cream, too. But only pistachio. Why’s it green?

food color to mimic the outer layer of the nut under the skin, which is only very slightly green on occasion.

Personally, I always felt guilty when I got a filet-o-fish sandwich for 99 cents during Lent, since those are my FAVORITE. Why would I waste my once every six months’ trip to McDonald’s on a McRib???

I thought you might bc you like to cook. My point is that mr and mrs Hobbes are pretentious foodies who use cooking string ; ) the only sewing of meat that I do is the stuffed turkey and embroidery floss works just dandy for that ROR! I try to use flesh colored floss so it blends ....
