I’ve been checking the TV listings every day and I can’t find It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown on any station.

I just picked up “Dark Star” from Amazon - Carpenter’s first flick!
He also did “They Live” which is kinda campy-scary, worth watching a couple times a year...

I prefer funny scary, so I recommend Shaun of the Dead.
Have you seen Zombieland yet? Awesome "funny scary" imho.

If you want FUN horror movies, try “Fearless Vampire Killers” or “Phantom of the Paradise”!
If you want some great 70’s cheese with some genuinely scary bits, try “The Devil’s Rain”.

Agreed, any Vincent Price movie, especially with Roger Corman directing.

Scariest TV: Walking Dead (on AMC-TV)
Best non-horror Halloween Movie: October Sky
Best series: Dark Shadows (1991 remake is better than the 1960s soap opera)
But my choice for scariest and most well-made: King Kong (Peter Jackson 2005 version)

I second The Walking Dead series. Pretty good stuff, especially for TV.
28 Days movies are also good (but keep in mind that the first one was made on a low budget, but still very, very good.) if you like the post apocalyptic thing.
Aliens (the 2nd movie)
If you just want to be grossed out, try “The Human Centipede”

Absolutely.
And I’ll throw in “The Dunwich Horror” and “The Wicker Man” [the -original- versions] for good measure.
