My Dad graduated Tuscaloosa High and Alabama.. ‘57 I think. Ears Whitworth days. Ugh! He always said he never remembered them winning a game.

Thanks Gina. Yeah, all my computer data was salvaged but the G5 tower couldn’t be fixed. The iHospital transfered everything to a new tower down to all my bookmarks in my various browsers and even my screen saver image. It took over a week and I was on pins & needles until I saw it restored. ‘cause I had thousands of hours of effort invested in it -— so everything is right in my world.

I love how well-crafted Suspense scripts are. You can tell work went into them.

No, I didn't make the trip - sis had her MRI, and things are in a holding pattern for the moment, so my presence wasn't needed. They said all they saw on the images was a 'thread' in her lung, which is probably a hair she inhaled off her pillow in her sleep. I told her to just cough like a cat a few times and she'd cack up a hairball. LOL Up there, they got 2"-3" in town, and Frostburg reported about 9". The jackpot area was around Mt. Storm, and they got a foot or so. The mere fact that anything accumulated this early is one for the books.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Greetings. Your Dad’s book, “The Big Broadcast 1920-1950”, was the very first book in my old time radio library. I love it. I’ve had it since the 1970s.

Thanks! That old-time radio has been in my folks' den since I was little!

My Dad (Bill Owen) gives many public talks on old-time radio.

He was also very involved at the "Old Time Radio Convention" in Newark, NJ, as an actor in many of the the re-enactments of the old shows.

When my brother was very young, he met the voice of The Lone Ranger" at ABC TV in NY...he was so afraid that he just hid in back of my Dad's legs!!!

My Dad also did did many on-camera and voice-over commercials for national television, and portrayed Ellery Queen in the nationally syndicated series “Ellery Queen’s Minute Mysteries”. It ran for many years on radio stations, allowing time for local commercials.

That’s wonderful!!! Thanks for telling me!

I remember when my Dad was writing “The Big Broadcast” ...he had all of the copies of pages of the manuscript in stacks all over the living room, and I was helping him sort and collate them into individual copies.

I remember him having the idea to interview all of the actors from these old-time radio shows, before they passed away.

He still recites excepts from shows for us, such as The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet!

We have a new grandson!

The baby was born on Friday morning, and the storm came on Sat. We lost our electricity yesterday, and so did the hospital.

Trees went down all over this area, and we had about a foot of snow.

Shirley Temple Black brought a new perspective to Orson Well's reputation in her autobiography, Child Star (McGraw-Hill Publishing company, 1988).
She wrote about a croquet match that was part of a publicity layout on pages 284 - 285:

"Did you hear my program about Martians [War of the Worlds]?"
"Yes," I stroked my ball and scowled.  It had stopped wide of the final wicket.  "Nelson Eddy was why I listened."
Welles turned and leaned on his mallet, waiting.  My evening routine included listening to Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy.  I explained but when guest Eddy came on to sing, I switched stations and stumbles on his.
"Did you believe my program?" he asked, striking a pleasing pose for our photographers.
"No, I knew it wasn't true."
"Taking careful aim, I knocked his ball slightly away from the mouth of the final wicket, leaving mine in good position.
His return shot caromed my ball away into a difficult lie.
"How did you know?" he asked.
Engrossed with my final chance, I said nothing and concentrated.  I missed.
"Well," I replied resignedly.  "If men from Mars had come here, why would just your program be broadcasting the news?  That didn't make sense, so I didn't believe it."

And Orson Welles had the reputation as an enfant terribles?!
Plus, you had to wonder about all those adults who were so terrified by his broadcast!
