-—Conservatives are moral cowards apparently.”-—
I go that when Cain threads were overrun with comments saying things like “I don’t care if ALL of the allegations are true, I’m still supporting Cain!”
I could forgive him for flip-flopping on Romney being the GOP’s “best chance for having a great President.” Heck, I could even look past his endorsing Bill Clinton for President and then miraculously converting to (what we are to believe is) the most Conservative position on every single issue in the public domain, just in time to start running races as a Republican.
Heck, maybe I could even look past his Cainesty plan against deportation and for a “pathway to citizenship” for illegals already here. I’m just not sure, though.
Luckily, however, he has a long record of Conservative accomplishments to prove his conversion though, such as:
.....umm.......and, uh.........well, I mean...........umm.........
Well he SAYS he’s Conservative now, and that’s what matters!
Plus, although Newt has some of the most Conservative accomplishments of any person in the USA in generations, he got photographed with Nancy Pelosi, so he’s a traitor. At the very least, we can’t trust him like we can trust the Clinton-endorsing graduate of Burger King University who miraculously converted on every issue in time to run for office. Newt may have explained and apologized, but we only accept conversions and apologies from Herman Cain; everyone else is not to be trusted.
Besides, Newt can’t get tax rates fixed at 9-9-9 forever, and Cain can. Just you wait and see!
He's doing really well. Newt was always a great debater, but he is beginning to actually become a really solid candidate too.
If Newt gets the nod - it would probably be better off to pick somebody not on the stage with him.
VP picks are often chosen to enhance your ticket - particularly if your seen as having a particular weakness that the VP pick can make up for. Cain now has baggage (justifiably or not) and since this is one of the biggest criticism of Newt, I don’t see how picking Cain helps...
Look at what Clinton did and that scumbag is treated like a respected elder statesman.
I like Newt.
“All you people who are nitpicking around about this issue and that flip-flop and baggage will not give a damn about any of that in 3 years. I dont give a damn about any of it now.”
Likewise.
I think the climate thing is insignificant. After the East Anglia info came out, Newt followed the new data.
That he tends to follow what is considered the best science is not a bad thing UNLESS the best science is being faked.
His 2008 ad with Pelosi was more than a year BEFORE the fraudulent research of the East Anglia Climate Research center was exposed by a hacker.
That said, I still see nothing wrong with attempting to move alternative energy forward as one of the means of usable energy.
Look we all know Gingrich's background and baggage. Gingrich is all that is left. Cain does not have the depth to be president - it is that simple. There is no one left except for Romney and so my support went to Gingrich by default.
However, I am happy with that. Gingrich is brilliant. There is no one person "pure" - it is not possible. There are people on this forum that want candidates pure as snow and it isn't possible - Reagan sure wasn't, but he was great. Need I remind you he signed an abortion bill into law in California?
Sorry I just don’t respect you enough to bother reading your drooling blather.
1989: Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-GA) co-sponsors the ambitious Global Warming Prevention Act (H.R. 1078), which finds that the Earths atmosphere is being changed at an unprecedented rate by pollutants resulting from human activities, inefficient and wasteful fossil fuel use, and the effects of rapid population growth in many regions, that global warming imperils human health and well-being and calls for policies to reduce world emissions of carbon dioxide by at least 20 percent from 1988 levels by 2000. The legislation recognizes that global warming is a major threat to political stability, international security, and economic prosperity. [H.R. 1078, 2/22/1989]
1992: Gingrich calls the environmental proposals in Al Gores book Earth in Balance devastatingly threatening to most American pocketbooks and jobs. [National Journal, 9/5/92]
1996: At a speech for the Detroit Economic Club, Gingrich mocks Al Gores global warming, citing the largest snowstorm in New York Citys history: We were in the middle of budget negotiations; the football games were coming up and we noticed on the weather channel that an early symptom of Al Gores global warming was coming to the East Coast. And it does make you wonder sometimes, doesnt it, how theoretical statisticians in the middle of the largest snowstorm in New York Citys history could stand there and say, I dont care what its doing. Its going to get very hot soon. [FDCH Political Transcripts, 1/16/96]
1997: As Speaker of the House, Gingrich co-sponsors H. Con. Res. 151, which notes carbon dioxide is a major greenhouse gas that comes from products whose manufacture consumes fossil fuels and calls on the United States to manage its public domain national forests to maximize the reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. [H. Con. Res. 151, 9/10/1997]
2007: Gingrich calls for a cap-and-trade system with tax incentives for clean energy. I think if you have mandatory carbon caps combined with a trading system, much like we did with sulfur, and if you have a tax-incentive program for investing in the solutions, that theres a package there thats very, very good. And frankly, its something I would strongly support. [Frontline, 2/15/07]
February 15, 2007: I think if you have mandatory carbon caps combined with a trading system, much like we did with sulfur, and if you have a tax-incentive program for investing in the solutions, that theres a package there thats very, very good. And frankly, its something I would strongly support. [Frontline, 2/15/07]
In a debate on climate policy with Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), Gingrich says the evidence is sufficient that we should move towards the most effective possible steps to reduce carbon-loading of the atmosphere, and that we should do it urgently. [ThinkProgress, 4/10/07]
In a Washington Post chat, Gingrich rejects a cap-and-trade system, saying it would lead to corruption, political favoritism, and would have a huge impact on the economy. He says he supports tax credits for dramatically reducing carbon emissions. [Washington Post, 4/17/08]
2008: In an advertisement made for Al Gores Alliance for Climate Protection, Gingrich sat with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and said that we do agree our country must take action to address climate change. [We Campaign, 4/18/08]
I dont think that we have conclusive proof of global warming. And I dont think we have conclusive proof that humans are at the center of it. [Newt.org, 4/22/08]
April 4, 2009: And now, in 2009, instead of making energy cheaperwhich would help create jobs and save Americans moneyPresident Obama wants to impose a cap-and-trade regime. Such a plan would have the effect of an across-the-board energy tax on every American. That will make our artificial energy crisis even worseand raising taxes during a deep economic recession will only accelerate American job losses. [Newsweek, 4/4/09]
Curious what Sarah thinks about Perry yuking it up with letterman?
Newt Gingrich the candidate of desperation. LOL
yup... I’m a sinner too...
I didn’t realize we were voting for a debater-in-chief.
You can have Newt. He lost me when he jumped on the environmental and global warming shit. Him jumping in bed with the Pribcess was icing on the cake as far as I am concerned. According to dome on this forum, Newt is the smartest man in the world. According to the msm Hillary isthe smartest woman in the world. The two groups should get together and compare notes.
Just watched Perry on Gretta... Feel bad for him...
He was even hard to listen too during this interview. Eloquence is not his thing for sure...
Figure he’s probably a good man... Hate to see what happened last night...
Cain was #2 on my list for two freaking months.
But Cain folks have completely turned me off to him with the way they’ve trashed Gingrich, Perry, and in many cases, even Palin. They show up on every thread and start trashing and name-calling. I’m sick of their crap, and this nonsense that everyone is SCUM or a TRAITOR or a FRAUD except for Herman Cain.
Gingrich changed the country for the better, Cain yells “9-9-9.” Easy choice.
Well said.
