My take on the plant manager's reaction is that he is exceedingly conscientious when it comes to policy matters, believing the “send to all” function is reserved for business announcements only. He's probably the only one in the company who said anything. If I were him I would have worded things a little less strongly while agreeing with the import of Corporal's remarks. Oh well.
Our company was privately owned until October 2009. Bought out by a larger entity. Things are not the same, for sure. Go back two decades we had company wide Christmas parties on plant turf with [gasp!] beer and whiskey around.
I an an engineer working for Caltrans, the California state DOT. It is California state policy not to allow any advertisements or flags or anything to be attached to California state bridges.
On the face of it, it is stupid. In the old days you could fly Old Glory and that would be that. Or you could put up a sign “Merry Christmas”. Same deal. That would be that.
Today, the ACLU will sue you into oblivion and win, allowing every nutcase from fags to neo-nazis to put up their flags any time they want. All we would have to do is give explicit permission for a contractor to post Old Glory on a California bridge, and after that, you would have to allow the gag glag (Rainbow flag) or the nazi flag. Here in California, the massive hispanic population would be flying the Mexican flag from every bridge.
The problem is not that DOTs & States are not patriotic or don’t want old Glory. The problem is that the USA has embraced modern insanity where common sense is dead and you have to constantly play defense against lawsuits and litigation for everything from big dollars, to just outright flaming stupidity like this.
If the voters would unelect all the socialist and moron activist commie politicians, and elect conservatives and other politicians who reflect common sense and solid core values, then this would not even be an issue.
As long as the USA continues to circle the toilet bowl, allowing the inmates to run the asylum, this is the kind of insane idiocy that will dictate terms to us. Things are only getting worse. More lawsuits. More stupidity. Less common sense.
Pray for this nation before it is too late.
By the way, this applies ONLY to our state bridges & roads & things. If the contractor wants to suspend Old Glory high above our bridge from his work crane, that is absolutely fine. That is his property and he can run 500 US flags from it if he wants. They always had lit up Christmas trees dangling from the cranes, and that was perfectly allowable. The contractor can post anything he wants, as long as it isn’t illegal.
Of course if he posted a nazi flag, we would probably get quick direction from the police that he was disturbing the peace and we would have to direct him to take it down. But he can hang US flags from his cranes and equipment all day and all night. He just can’t hang it from our bridges, for the reason already stated about us having to then let allow flying the gay flag, nazi flag and Mexican flags and all others.
It is not a question of who is offended. The problem is that we have thousands of nutcase activists who know how to beat us through the court system, from real law to liberal judicial activists. If you fly the flag on a bridge, then you have to legally allow anybody to fly any flag on off that bridge — gay pride, nazi flag, pink cancer flag, New York Jets football flag. There is no just selecting one type on state property. That is insane, but that is the result the commie activists have gotten through the courts.
I disagree. If CalTrans has a written policy that only allows the U.S. flag and the flag of the State of California to be flown it is as a result of a political subdivision, not a political statement. Using your argument, then any nutjob organization could demand a gay pride flag be flown above the California Statehouse ( I AM assuming it’s not there already.)
Too many people run from the conflict. Every time they run, the left gets bolder. That’s what I like about Cain. He calls it like he sees it and is not afraid to be politically incorrect.
You can disagree until the cows come home but it won’t change the facts.
Putting a state or national flag on a public building is the one very obvious exception to this rule. I think the ACLU loses here ONLY on the grounds that this is long held historic tradition — which is also why government bodies can say a prayer opening that session of congress or whathaveyou. Trying leading off a bridge ribbon-cutting ceremony with an introductory prayer and see how fast the ACLU crushes you with a lawsuit to allow Muslims to get equal time at all future ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
See what I mean?
Don’t get me wrong. Governments can do whatever they want to do, but they will get sued by the ACLU to allow every asinine group of morons to be able to post anything they want. This is why liberals can always fly the UN flag anywhere they want. There is no conservative ACLU running around the nation suing them for EVERY INSTANCE of hoisting the UN flag and demanding equal treatment, like hoist the “Don’t tread on me” flag next to it.
Liberals fight dirty and are indefatigable. Conservatives are doomed until we learn to be street fighters.
Look at the Occupy protests. The Tea Party is nice and pays a fee to get a permit to protest. The Occupy people are lawless squatters. Right now every single Tea Party group should be suing every state that has allowed the Occupy group to protest without a permit — they should sue for return of all fees immediately with damages. If Occupy can protest without playing by the rules then the Tea Parties of each state should push for a class-action suit for each state for a full refund of all expenses from fees to the cost of food and porta-potties.
This is why you can’t fly the US flag on a bridge. We’ve let the commie libs win because they are just tenacious ruthless street-fighters.
