Bottom line is that the router is working when connected to my laptop via ethernet. It is NOT working via its wireless antenna. Is there a simple way to turn on the wireless antenna or is this a hardware problem in which I would need a new router?

Yes, there is a radio-on button. Connect to the router using your computer, log in, and it’s in setup somewhere. I just helped a friend with this very problem.

I have one of these routers, there are two small buttons on the right side of it. One of them is the wireless on/off button. Press it, you should see the blue wireless led on the front when it is active.
