I can probaly fix that. How much do you want for it??? I’m a bachelor, do a lot of quick cooking— do you know if it will work in a microwave? Thanks.

There was nothing [prominent] on the packaging that said not to place it in the oven, though that LR44 battery should have been a give away.

New York (AP) - Hospitals have been overrun with people reporting feeling ill following misuse of battery powered meat thermometers used to determine the temperature of a turkey.

Consumer protection spokesperson Gill Reed reports that NOT everyone that left the thermometers inside the oven as the turkey was cooking became ill. Only those whose thermometer used a LR44 battery seem to have been affected.

Symptoms seem to set in a few minutes after posting to on line forums and include a flushed, red face and general uneasy feeling at having to admit to their daughter that they destroyed a really neat present.

Sorry. Could not resist. Think of it this way, the women in your life never forget right? You'll get a chuckle out of this every Christmas for many years. "Remember when dad put the thermometer in the turkey and left it in the oven?"

My son gave me a wireless one for Christmas last year... Took me awhile to figure out I had to run the cable through the door so that the transmitter was on the outside of the oven/smoker. Love it but it took awhile to get the smoke stains off... :)

I heard those work well as rectal thermometers too. You should probably wash it first though.

;-)

Actually, my involvement was minimal. I did open and [superficially read] the package and remove the little tape to allow the battery to operate. We’ve used an oven proof meet thermometer for years and hardly gave it a second thought. I would have taken it back if I knew you had to stick it in a hot turkey, possibly more than once. I’d just use the old familar metal and glass one.

I have a Taylor digital similar to that. It replaced a Taylor analog that didn't last very long.

I washed it. It wasn't waterproof.

Live and learn. Besides, isn't plastic-flavored turkey delicious?

I hope I am not being too harsh. I was really having a boring Thanksgiving. My wife just popped in and asked what was so funny.

You should probably wash it first though.

Don't use it for that if it's still HOT...

“I would have taken it back if I knew you had to stick it in a hot turkey, possibly more than once. “

Yeah that is really tiring. You do that 2 times and you are done for the day.
