I am cigar ignorant.
Can FReepers give me ideas for a nice going away cigar gift for an executive who has been a great mentor to me?

Go to a good local cigar shop and see if they have a Christmas gift pack of Fuente Opus X. It will only be a few cigars, but they are the best you can legally get in the U.S.
If you want a full box, I would go with Ghurka or La Flor Dominicana (Rush's favorites).

Ghurka is NOT one of Rush's favorites.

You won’t get a good box for that price. Go to your local store and ask for advice.
Don’t buy Ghurkas.

I don’t smoke cigars, but just make sure you are getting real Cubans, and not Dominicans.... /Seinfeld

My personal favorites for the money are Punch and ROMEO Y JULIETA.
There are other nice ones. Be aware that when you get the really long fat (Churchill) type of cigars, you are looking at a LONG smoke. Sometimes an hour or more.

Cigar Gift Help Needed What do you need, my address?
I'll send it in a PM. :-)
To: laker_dad
There are many who now say that often the Dominican cigars are better than the Cuban.

Online is the best place to get cigars. There’s Famous smoke shop, Thompson, and Cigars international, to name the major players.
Nicaraguan tobacco seems to make the best cigars in my experience.
I like Rocky Patel. At www.cigarsinternational.com you can get a mazo of Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 box pressed for under $100. Might even be able to get a torch lighter to go with it.
Good luck.

Yep, that’s a good one!
I’d recommend anything by Tatuaje (brown band is better than red band IMO) or anything influenced by Don Pepin Garcia. Gurkhas are garbage, as are all of the ACID line.

“Gurkhas are garbage, as are all of the ACID line.”
Gurkhas can be ok for yardwork cigars. They’re not the best, but not the worst.
ACID, and most anything from Drew Estate are just about the worst.
