I was at a Home Depot today. They were trying to let persons have a CFL for $.01 and had very few takers. I'm fixed for life of incandescents especially 100 watt bulbs. The CFL’s in many places will not last because the utility companies have their voltage jacked up to 125 volts plus. Heat {the internal heat generated by the electronics} kills CFL’s fast.
The very huge difference between the new CFL’s and the old florescent tubes is they had a step up transformer {ballast} which could withstand the heat it generated. Those bulbs lasted for years. CFL’s by their very design using an electronic ballast in a very confined space usually will not despite the hype. If you get 3-6 months you likely did good. Also one voltage spike or surge due to storm Bye Bye CFL bulb.

I remember a story about a European manufacturer who got around the EU regulations by selling the incandescent light-bulbs as radiant heating devices. It was all quite legal.

$3.75 for a 16-pack at Wal-Mart last night. I bought three.
