Wife murdered, husband only shot. Sounds so familiar.

Around 1988 a friend of mine’s wife was killed. The police ruled it a suicide but he never would accept that. He was certain she was murdered by thugs looking for drugs as she was a nurse.

He never could get the police to investigate further.

My guess is the cops had it right and he just couldn’t accept it but you never know.

“I guess I watch too much Forensic Files but I had a bad feeling when I heard this on the radio.”

Isn’t it a shame that we have become so jaded by today’s news that we immediately look to the shady side of these kinds of stories. The initial information does not turn my mind that way with this particular family. Having vetvetdoug to also tells us that he knows the families and that we should not be worried about some dark side is doubly reassuring.

I ache for the families for their loss. They are going to need our prayers and support. I have faith that the police will get to the bottom of this.

Absolutely. It is very tiring when Freepers, who should and generally do know better, jump to conclusions like they are watching some fake reality show.

For people to comment from a million miles overhead, as opposed to responding to concrete facts gathered by the on the ground investigators (who deal not only with forensics, but also the intricate human factors and interactions between people)is not only cruel, but it is stupid. Ignorance of facts is not a qualification for commentary.

I am so very sorry for your loss and the cruelty that followed. Deo Vindice(With God Protected)

I heard LTC Grossman at an Air Force JAG Keystone conference about 3 years ago. He was truly impressive. We also share a favorite piece of science fiction: Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers”.

Don’t be so quick to judge on this one. This isn’t NY.

These are people who are well known to a lot of folks, including FReepers. See vetvetdoug’s comments up thread.

I’m not making excuses or defending anybody. I’m just saying that we need to let this one unfold a bit more before we let our cynicism drag us down an all too familiar dark road. The existing evidence does not point to anything that would involve the husband as anything more than a victim at this point.

One spouse dead and other spouse "treated and released", with the survivor as the only witness?

When this is the case, 99% of the time there is more than meets the eye.

This killing happened to a retired hospital executive walking home from a coffeeshop in a a 500K plus neighborhood.

The suspect has been caught. A great example of why one should carry at all times. You think you are safe? Not so.

This neighborhood backs up to a fairly new high school complex. The perp did this in the morning, having dropped out of school might have been hanging with his contacts in the school and did the robbery and killing on this man, who “scuffled” with the perp.

If the victim had been armed and trained, the scuffle would have ended with the perp popped. Appalling so called casual crime. Not me, by God. P.S.- note how they try to report on the perp beind a “good kid”— they have the firearm and his prints (this is a Crips cred killing I’d wager).

We live in a TV world where everything is wrapped up in an hour like on CSI or Law & Order.

Investigations are often messy and expensive. Law enforcement will rarely spend valuable resources trying to solve cases unless there is significant evidence, i.e. the proverbial smoking gun or eye witnesses.

The newspaper site said there had been 3 car burglaries in that area. Hope they catch the person/persons.

What I would like to know is this: He must have had the shot, why would you respond to just the scream when there was an obvious shot before the scream. That would tell me to grab the gun and approach with caution without busting out side willy nilly. Sounds funny to me.

Correction on post 37: He must have had the shot should read “He must have heard the shot.

If I recall correctly from the various stories that I’ve read and heard; she screamed, then was shot. I haven’t heard how much time there was between the two. I would bet that Coach was responding to that scream.

While it is beyond fathoming for me or you, these folks may not have had a gun or not had one that was readily accessible (small child in the house).

It is sad to think that we should not have an expectation of sufficient security to not need a gun to go into our own back yard. I’m assuming that in what is described as a nice neighborhood their back yard was probably fenced. In such a case, I might have thought there was a problem with the dog and responded to my wife’s screams without a gun in hand.

Bless her heart but my wife is deathly afraid of frogs, even tiny ones. Her screams when one jumped into her blouse once when she went out on our back porch would have raised the dead. Thankfully, I didn’t respond with a gun. She would have taken it from me and shot me for laughing at her.

you’re right I can’t conceive of someone not owning a gun. I have them stashed all over the house, just in case someone shoots one of my relatives in the back yard(might happen too since the next door neighbor has a medical MJ card and grows his own, his yard backed up to mine)and I will have one close to hand. However, the shot must have followed closely behind the scream, maybe he didn’t own a firearm, but this sounds like a classic case of the husband having the wife shot and then having himself wounded to draw off suspicion. What was the name of that Officer(who is in jail now)that did that with his wife, McDonald or something like that.
