By this reasoning 91% of voters didn't want Santorum.

Santorum is broke and has no chance. Newt...double down.

Do you have a candidate in the race? If so, who?

Bachmann, Cain, Newt, Santorum, No one.
Dreadful, just like my 2008 progression: Tancredo, Hunter, Thompson, No one.

SANTORUM: What A Big Government Conservative Looks Like
Voted to increase spending for the Department of Education by $3.1 billion.

In fairness, NOTHING on that list compares to Newt's vote for the CREATION of Jimmy Carter's Dept. of Education - one of only 18 Republicans to do so, nearly all the others N.E. Rockefellers. Even Pat Schroeder of Colorado voted NO! This is why longtime Senators and House Reps rarely become Prez.

Congressman West appears to be having more public interest now in the state of the Union so perhaps he can rise like a phoenix out of the Republican political quagmire. A West/Gingrich combination could have my vote but West is the key.

I have posted before LT. Col. West is an excellent alternative. If the nomination is decided at the convention, I wouldn’t mind if West came up like the phoenix bird.

Newt Gingrich was first elected to Congress from Georgia's 6th congressional district in November, 1978. He was not sworn into the House of Representatives until January, 1978. The legislation you refer to was not a CREATION but a RECREATION of an already existing federal agency, and was signed into law just 9 months after Newt was sworn into Congress.

The United States Department of Education, also referred to as “ED” or “the ED” for (the) Education Department, was recreated by the Department of Education Organization Act (Public Law 96-88) and signed into law by President Jimmy Carter on October 17, 1979, it began operating on May 16, 1980.

OK. So a freshman House Rep, a former college professor, votes to CONTINUE the federal Dept. of Ed. Geez, what a scandal!

So, before Ronald Reagan began to assert Conservatism from the White House, Newt made a boo-boo.

He has admitted to making mistakes. I for one do not see it as rising to the level of Rick Santorums length list, a demonstration of consistency.

Newt went on to work with the Reagan White House on political issues during the 1980s and helped build the Reagan Coalition, the Religious Right, and the Republican majority (together the Reagan Revolution) which directly led the downfall of the Soviet Union, the Contract with America, government reforms, less government, tax cuts, a balanced budget, and the great, longstanding Reagan economy.

He has done more to put Ronald Reagan's conservative policies into government practice than anyone else presently running for the Republican Party presidential nominee position. No other candidate in this race can claim those achievements.

“...He was not sworn into the House of Representatives until January, 1978...” should read, “...He was not sworn into the House of Representatives until January, 1979...”

Sorry for the typo.

Last time around, between candidates that (once Thompson dropped out) were worse than what we have now, there was all kinds of caterwauling about not being a purist, about not letting perfect be the enemy of the good -- as if there was anything more than marginally "good" about McCain, Romney, or Huck.

Now here we have Gingrich, hardly perfect, but who is EASILY "good" enough to pass the Reagan test of "settle for a candidate who agrees with you 75 or 80 percent." And only a few days ago, Rush was -- rightly, I thought -- happy at the thought of Gingrich finally getting mad enough to really slam back at Romney's dirty tricks. Then Newt DOES just that -- attacking Romney's business ethics, and unfortunately going a bit "populist" class warfare on it, but hey -- all's fair in love and war, and Newt was pissed, and ROMNEY NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OUT. Further, we see informed posts here on FR that reveal that Romney's Bain gig hardly exemplified the kind of "capitalism" that made this country great. As someone else pointed out elsewhere, had Romney & cronies done the same in the early 1800s, they'd have been hung.

So who comes out today defending (perhaps not in word, but certainly in deed) Romney, and calling Newt an "anti-capitalist"? Rush.

I think if Reagan was alive today, he'd give Rush a swift kick in the ass. Somebody ought to.

I always envisioned capitalists as creating and building, not tearing down and looting a business.

So, besides being a liberal pro-abortin, pro-gay agenda Republican, Romney lacks business ethics.

Who ever would have thought that?
