I'm Christian, Unless You're Gay

Today I want to write about something that has bothered me for the better part of a decade. I’ve carved out no fewer than a dozen drafts of this post, all strangely unalike, all ultimately failing to accomplish the job I’ve set out to do. Truth is, I’ve been trying to write it off and on for more than a year now, and the right words have been seemingly impossible to come by.

In the end, and in order to post it, I guess I had to care more about the message than I do about potential backlash. I’m not being facetious when I say that I hope I can get this message across without offending… well… everybody.

What I really hope is that this post will spark and encourage poignant and worthwhile discussion that will lead to some poignant and worthwhile changes in the lives of at least a few people who are hurting.

That being said, I believe some strong words need to be said today.

“God hates fags.” We’ve all seen the signs being waved high in the air by members of the Westboro Baptist church. On TV. In real life. It’s hard not to take notice.

Over the years, I’ve watched seemingly never-ending disgustingness and hatred spill across the media airwaves from those who belong to the organization. For those who don’t know much about that “church,” they have made a seedy name for themselves by doing drastic things like picketing beneath atrocious signs and hosting flagrant anti-gay protests at military funerals.

As Christians, we are to love the sinner, since we are all sinners, but not to condone or approve of the sin. In this case, how could we accept a sinful lifestyle that is anti-social, unhealthy, self-destructive and against God's Law, leading to everlasting punishment? That would not be loving the sinner.

God certainly is loving. He is also just.

That story is a boatload of crap.

We all have friends or family that are gay, we don’t drop them, most of us don’t pay that much attention to them except when they get in our face with their sickness.

What we do not like is having them push their sick agenda in schools , in parades, and in wanting to call their sick sex practices with a partner, a marriage.

What did science ever say about “It wasn’t my choice?” BTW, I’ve just been wondering , how can “B” be if it isn’t a choice? If it isn’t a choice , how long until LGBPT?

I don’t hate gays, nor do I hate those engaged in adultery, those filled with envy who covet the property of their neighbors, or others who in some way fall short of following God’s Word. I fall short, as infrequently as possible but still on occasion, so I understand both temptation and failure. I have clear evidence that God does love gays and adulterers and wants them to become worthy of heaven, as he wants all of us to become worthy. I also have clear and convincing evidence that God wants those people who consciously choose to violate the guidance He has provided to repent: place their duty to God above their lesser drives, and suppress or resist those aspects of their desires. Whether someone is attracted to the same sex (or to someone of the opposite sex other than their spouse) by choice or because of their inborn wiring is not important. Whether someone chooses to act on that attraction, knowing what the Bible says, is central to who they are in their relationship with God.

I see no hate in that condemnation of a person’s choices and actions. Rather, I see failing to uphold the Word of God as the ultimate guide to life as one of most hateful things one can do, because abandoning the Bible would encourage more people to go astray.I will not watch or allow my kids to watch a TV show with gay characters presented in a positive light, one that celebrates adultery, or one that celebrates any other violation of God’s Word. Again, that is not hate for gays or for those who cheat, just good parenting.

"I’m just sick and tired of having their lifestyle stuffed in my face, 24/7."

That's how I feel too, but it goes beyond that. Not only are we bombarded, show anything but open acceptance and WE are the problem. Well I'm all done with the PC game. "Homophobe" means no more than "racist" to me.

Matthew 19:4-6

4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,

5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

Your post is quite good. The problem, as I see it, is that we have allowed the emphasis and abuse of SEX to become endemic in our society....precisely because we did not understand how GOOD and PROTECTIVE God’s commandments are. The wrong ideas of sex began slowly to warm up (think of the frog sitting in a pan of cooking water....tepid at the beginning) in our printed media and then via TV and radio (with advertising)...until it has become a raging fire seen almost everywhere. That fire is now spreading pornography and perversion across the planet. Love became defined as sex and the notion of divorce mushroomed as many could not get enough satisfactory sex with one partner for life. Sexual sin has run rampant and even encouraged the idea of abortion as a way to avoid the consequences of that sin...in addition to the most depraved versions of sex that we now see.

WE desperately need God’s help to reform our culture and I am CONVINCED that our economic woes are merely another part of our turning our backs on God and His ways in our society.

If you are a Christian and you love somebody, do you “accept” their homosexual behavior? Of course not. Love does not equal permissiveness.

Hebrews 10:26-27 “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.”

Deliberate and unrepentant sin such as homosexuality will lead your loved one to eternal separation from God. If you love them, reject their sin. Of course, homosexuality is not a sin against me (like theft, or murder) but a sin against the Lord. If homosexuals loved their friends and family, they would listen to, and consider their rebukes.

1 Samuel 2:25 “If a man sins against another man, God may mediate for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?” His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the LORD’s will to put them to death

Exactly. Manipulative garbage. Last I checked we’re all free to associate with whomever we like. If I don’t want to associate with homosexuals, why is that wrong?

Should the homosexual feel guilty about choosing perversion over friendship? No, of course not, it’s always the straight person’s fault.

And you want to bring Christianity into it? This clown has no clue what’s in the Bible. All love and no consequences, right?

If someone is an unrepentant sinner, then they have a problem.
If we love them, we will point out their sin, and try to get them to repent and live a different sort of life.

It may be that someone is, at their core, homosexual. Or a glutton. Or greedy. But we are all supposed to repent of our sinful nature, to struggle against our unworthy desires, and to live -- as much as possible -- a life that is pleasing to God.

The folks wallowing in homosexual lust need intervention, as an act of Christian love.

and the Christian has a duty to rightly divide the word of God—to understand the terms used in their natural sense. Too often those who call themselves Christian confuse the term “love” with our post modern sense that if we love somebody we dare not question what they do that puts them in danger of the fire to come. What man could claim to love a neighbor whose house was being consumed with fire —and love that it is the neighbor who chose to live in a house that is now burning up—but refuse to do everything possible to pull him/or her from the fire?A father loves his children-a good father will guide them in the paths of righteousness.

What sort of love would let a person go to hell without telling them the truth. People’s idea of love is a bit twisted nowadays and it does not include discipline.

“conveniently leave out the “God hates sin” part of the Bible.”

You are correct... However, a better way to say it is that God Loves sin to pieces! As the perfect Love destroys sin.

I tend to give more credibility to the words of Jesus than those of Paul. The two are not always on the same side of an issue.

Let those without sin cast the first stone and live by and be judged by the law. I prefer to live by Love. That doesn’t mean that I don’t follow and obey the same law for myself. However, I follow it out of Love, not out of fear of retribution, consequences or abandonment if I violate it. Yes, I trip and stumble, especially when I see someone else’s actions harming so many such as our current president. But I’m working on it.
