All this prom talk takes me back...Graduated 1964..after the prom, which was at the old Pennsylvania Hotel in NYC, about 50 of us went to a nightclub in midtown..we saw the Smothers Bros, and Trini Lopez was the opening act...great show..we were all under 18, so of course worried about being able to buy drinks. Our table, 12 of us..lucked out..waiter..an old guy..comes up..looks at us..smiles..says hi kids..let me see your smiling faces..you're all over 18, right?..we all nod like crazy..you wouldn't lie to mem would you?..we all shake our heads NO..like wet dogs...OK..he then says..what do you all want to drink.

Our other friends, at the same place..didn't get served..However, there was a problem...that was the first time I ever heard of a TAB at a club..or how dangerous it could be..we never asked for seperate checks..and when the bill came..we were..well..stuned and beebed..I remember the guys all huddled, literally emptied our pockets...and still had to borrow some $$ from several of our dates..though they were all in good spirits about it as they were all also happily inebriated at that time..

Afterwards, like at 2am..we did what kids had been doing in NYC for decades..rode the Staten Island Ferry back and forth until dawn...then we all went to one girl's house..she lived in Manhattan..where we'd all left changes of clothes earlier in the week..went to the Market Diner for breakfast..then took the Circle Line up to Bear Mountain..spent the day on the beach..

Somehow, we all survive the 60's
