This is one of those games that is probably going to go do down into the last 2 minutes of regulation. Thoughts ?
Giants have a special spring in their step right now. Eli has been there before. But San Francisco has a strong defense and they are hard to beat out there at their place. Justin Smith ( former bengal) and company on that defensive line are impressive.
I will go with the 49ers winning 19-16
Taylor, Carson, Kelly and Van Pelt will keep Gore under 50.
The Giants will be outcoached. That and the Special Teams will be the difference in the game. Eli is exceptional, but he is good for a couple of interceptions a game and the Niners have the most takeaways in the league.
The 49ers run defense has knocked out the starting RB in fully 1/2 the games they played this year. Pierre Thomas was knocked out of the game on the opening drive.
In NJ, the Giants might win. In Candlestick, the 49ers win and go on to beat the Patriots in the Superbowl.
I am still stunned at how little respect the 49ers get after beating the Saints with 2 last minute touchdowns. Literally last 3 minutes. The Saints were supposed to destroy the 49ers. That didn’t happen, and still the 49ers get no respect.
This reminds me of the 2010 San Francisco baseball Giants. They weren’t supposed to get past Atlanta. The Philly hitters were supposed to destroy them for the pennant. Then the Rangers were supposed to destroy them for the World Series Championship. Tim Lincecum — 2 time Cy Young winner — was the “underdog” in every game he faced. Yet who took home the Championship? Not the east coast teams the biased east coast media wants to see win.
Go 49ers! I’ll say 27-16 Niners, with 3 picks and 2 sacks on Eli.
The Giants didn’t beat the Packers. The Packers beat the Packers. The Green Bay receivers never showed up.
I know this wasn’t the case, but IF the mafia had bought off all the Packer receivers to throw the game, they would not have blown passes as brazenly as they actually did in that game. The Green Bay receivers couldn’t catch a cold that day.
The Giants are to be respected in all 3 phases of the game. I agree that the 49ers win, but I think it will take all the fuss that Jim Harbaugh can scheme.
He is healthy
Recievers are healthy.
Coaches are in “playoff form”.
Baltimore is in big trouble. Their offense is so flat - and if they get behind, could get messy. If Pats keep turnovers under control - they win.
Pats will do one of their classic “hey look - Branch (or Ochocinquo) can catch 8 balls” - while everyone is worried about Welker and Gronkowski.
SF and NY game will come down to who can run. SF very tough on D against the run. If healthy - I could see Gore saying “this is my game fellas”.
NYG against Brady in Superbowl? Lightening bolts will be shooting out of Brady’s eyes.
I know some people like to hate on Tom and the Patriots. But he is right there with Johnny U and Joe Montana. He has that aura about him.
I think the Giants will likely pull this one out, though I think it’ll be pretty close. Manning’s going to be good/lucky enough to get a couple TDs, even though San Fran’s defense is very good, and the 49ers’ offense isn’t terribly great. The only way I can see the 49ers pulling it out is if the Giants’ secondary gets burned a few times.
So I’m predicting... Giants win, 20-17
The Jints are looking like a team of destiny. San Fran’s Cinderella run ends this evening.
The Saints D just quit at the end of the Niners game. The Giants D will do no such thing. Giants win going away.
Indeed. I was in the Boston area right after 9/11 on business, listening to sports-talk radio. It was 'Tom Brady who's he?' The Patriots were 0 - 2 and Drew Bledsoe had just been injured and knocked out for the season. Could have gotten fantastic odds on the Pats even making the playoffs. Enter Tom Brady. Yes the Pats got a very beneficial call in their playoff game against the Raiders, but the rest they did themselves. And in the seasons afterward.
Rain and windy conditions forecast.
I live about 40 miles north of the Stick and it started raining here about 7 AM this morning. Has continued all day. It will be wet and muddy for the game.
I went to school in Champaign and watched Romo at Eastern, so I've been keeping an eye on Dallas for a while. I saw that game and it made me sick. 100% at the feet of Jason Garrett. I hate to say it, but he has the mindset of a backup quarterback. Get a lead and hold off the run. His offense was rolling and then he started playing scared to lose and he lost. But very true, the Giants are a couple of plays from being home.
