It seemed as though Newt botched the illegal alien issue - crying about how we can’t deport senior citizens here illegally.... Mitt knew exactly what conservatives wanted to hear and despite being a disengenuous fraud, he said it.

Would he take the same position in the general election - absolutely NOT. Mitt is an expert at saying anything it takes to get elected.

People, please stop accusing me of being pro—Romney and casting invectives. I have made it clear that if we nominate Romney, I will vote 3rd party conservative and leave the GOP for the first time in my lifetime.

I must say Newt put his foot in his mouth on the illegal immigration issue. “Grandmas and Grandpas”? They still came here illegally and have been living a lie all these years.

Mitt had a good retort “Don’t tell me there are 11 million illegal grandmas and grandpas here now!” (or words to that effect.

Mitt is an expert at saying anything it takes to get elected.

On what planet? He's never been elected to a nationwide or even national (Senate or Congress) office. Romney was so patently unbelieveable in 2008 that GOP voters actively preferred McCain, even knowing he was nuts, just on the off chance that he might do something right in a mad freak.

I think you should read what you wrote in your vanity again.

Hardly. Newt is trying to get out in front of a talking point, which would be Republicans want to drive any and all illegals into the sea. I think he’s been rather smart about it. He’s using older illegals, and being somewhere 25 yrs is quite a long time, as a balance against his policy of go home and reapply. Smart politics if you ask me. He’s kneecapping the media, not giving them an opening.

I live here in Florida. I will never under any circumstances vote for that lying socialist Romney. I have grave reservations about Newt but was just about to give him my support. I was contacted by some company conducting a telephone poll. They asked me who I support in the primary. I wanted so much to say Newt but something kept tugging on me and I told them I was undecided. Then I heard Newt is going up and down Florida saying that people who want illegals deported are inhumane! There is absolutely no difference between what Newt said and Perry’s identifying conservatives as heartless for believing in American sovereignty.

I differ with Newt on that subject and other things. Perhaps I’ll be banned for saying it, but I cannot support Newt Gingrich in the Florida primary. Not one of the current candidates seem to take a true conservative stance especially on illegals, so I guess there is no one to whom I can give my support.

Newt made a tactical error. He actually believes Florida is like Texas and California. We do have a large hispanic community here but they are very diverse and they are, for the most part, here legally. Few conservative Floridians want to give up our tax money to subsidized the illegals who are here. Nor do we want them to remain here taking jobs from American citizens. For Newt to be running around playing compassionate conservative here is like him giving us a slap in our face.

I think what Mittens and his minions are doing to Newt is more than despicable but Newt has not helped his cause one bit.

Newt should be highlighting the fact that Mitt no longer feels it is necessary to remove Obamacare and given his past history how untrustworthy that makes him. He should bring up the idea that even if Mitt says he is tough on illegal immigration, he is prone to change his mind at any time and cannot be trusted to carry out the will of the people. Newt is going to have a hard time running against Mitt if he continues to support the very things we all know Mitt is going to do.

Mittens has adjusted some of his positions to be more appealing to conservatives. I expect to see some analysis on that tomorrow. In fact, Donna Brazelle pointed it out, as the others were having their love fest for Romney.

In fact, on several issues, things that Newt originally said in other debates, some of the other candidates incorporated into their replies.
