A neighbour installed one of those motion-sensitive sprayers, you attach to a garden hose. Not only do they work on cats, deer, racoons, crows, etc. -- they are also almost as much fun as a bug zapper.

That is a cool idea although I can see the “get outta my yard you kids” type having them pointed towards the sidewalk.
