I generally don’t like the idea of the cats being outside, but one of my cats just insists, and won’t shut up until I let him out.
I make an exception for him because he is a big, tough cat. He grew up in Wyoming with big dogs and antelope and can handle himself fine.
The previous owners had him declawed (sad), but he’s like the Honey Badger, he don’t give a shit. He’ll chase anything. Stray cats, possums. No animals come in our backyard anymore.
He likes to sleep on our patio even when it’s cold, and he greets me at the door everyday when I get home from work. He knows the sound of my car.
Haven’t had any complaints from neighbors yet.
An owner has a sacred responsibility to keep his cat safe and in good health.
We're talking 3-4 years life span for an outdoor cat versus 12-15, even 18-20 years for an indoor cat according to statistics....and statistics don't lie.
Free-roaming cats are placed at great risks by many dangers to life and health:
Being hit by a car
Being poisoned by chemicals including lawn maintenance products, anti-freeze or rat poison
Contracting feline diseases
Being killed by dogs or outdoor wildlife
Being abused by humans....being shot, beaten or killed
Being stolen
Getting lost
Provide your cat with a scratching post, a seat by a sunny window...and lots of toys. Consider getting a feline "buddy" for him to play with.
After a period of transition, your cat will be perfectly content to be indoors and you will be acting as a loving and RESPONSIBLE owner.

Oh, please, God, don’t let this honey badger thing become a meme. That guy is a dufus moron. Have you seen the interview of him? He’s an OWSer. Big time.
I got a couple of little mischief makes last year shortly after I separated from my unfaithful ex-wife. She hated cats. It was a good trade.
