Obviously, people tend to vote for so-called "affinity" candidates. But that is true across the political spectrum

Lame. Of course they do. But not to the extreme Mormons do. In 2008, Mormons voted 94% for Romney in Utah...and 94-95% in Nevada. Last weekend, it was still 88% for Romney in Nevada caucus vote among Mormons...giving Romney the win given that up to 1/4th of GOP Nevada caucus voters were Lds.

A Pew study late in '11 found that Romney had at least an 86% approval rating among Mormons.

For last weekend's vote...here's where I got the 88% figure:
