Authorities say a woman is recovering after she was accidentally shot by a deputy during a concealed weapons class in Chesnee.
Deputies say an instructor was showing a student the right way to hold her .22 caliber pistol Saturday when the gun fired, hitting the student next to her.

Hold future classes in English and maybe this won't happen again.
What in the world was a loaded gun doing in a classroom? Why was ammunition even brought in?
“The gun fired”
Almost certainly it did not.
“The gun was negligently fired by the instructor while he was showing a student how to handle it.”
Much more likely scenario. Probably based on this report: 99+%.
Bah!

The article says that the Sheriff (of Spartanburg County) is an advocate for women getting their Concealed Carry license. That's a good thing. Now, he just needs to find someone (or someones) who actually knows how to handle firearms and can teach them properly. An NRA-certified instructor is an excellent suggestion.
So which of the 4 rules was violated? Certainly aiming at something you don’t want to destroy. Certainly putting your finger on the trigger when you don’t intend to shoot.
Well, he got 2 out of 4.
The NRA should add one more rule to their gun safety rules:
Never allow yourself to be taught gun safety by a law enforcement officer.
I think you better send an ambulance over here right away!
Oh! - It was but a mere sting ...
OOPS!! Where's Opie !?!
Right here paw ...
You forgot. “Treat all guns as if they are loaded”.
“The gun was negligently fired by the instructor while he was showing a student how to handle it.”
Rather, “The instructor negligently fired the gun while he was showing a student how to handle it.”
I had my concealed handgun class on Saturday. I passed and nobody got shot in the process. The instructor was good but a few of the students had my FULL attention.
In TX, a 32 caliber or greater must be used for the shooting proficiency part of the test.
I bought a Kahr P380 because it's a convenient "pocket pistol" for concealed carry. Instructions say to not manually jack one into the chamber as it may jam. I found this to be true - only reliable way to chamber a round is to lock the slide back, insert the mag, then release the slide. I have to walk around with a round chambered if I want to be able to respond to a bad situation quickly. Hopefully a hundred rounds through it will loosen things up so I can manually get a round chambered. A uy on one forum said he ground 20 thousandths off the slide stop so it moves back a tad farther and it clearted all the chambering issues up - might have to visit a gunsmith after it's broken in...
Not one word on this scumbags ARREST or Pending Prosecution for : Reckless Endangerment using a Firearm causing Injury or Death. A FELONY IN EVERY STATE, the Idiot belongs in PRISON simply because they would not hesitate for a second to charge an ordinary citizen with numerous FELONIES were this to happen to them. 10 years ought to do. Through his blatant negilgence and reckless handling of a firearm, the officer willfully and knowingly SHOT an innocent person showing a blatant disrespect for Human Life, and should be Prosecuted to the Full Extent of the Law, just like EVERYBODY ELSE.
I am glad I never had to go to a class for that exact reason.
I’m really watchful at the range, too.
In Texas you have to attend a class and qualify at a gun range. I guess I could have paid extra for a private class. My personal gun range is out in the backyard so not worried there.
