My Chinese buddy, and he is freshly from Red China, says that there men tend to prefer cats, and women dogs.
(No dog eating jokes, please.)
.
No, they don't, if you train them.
I have a set of weak spring mouse traps that I line the edge of counters with when I adopt a new cat.
Sure there are a few wakeups in the middle of the night, but they DON'T want to go there.

I have never known a cat to jump up on you and cover you in kisses because you have been gone for a couple of hours. Also nothing is cuter then when a dog’s tail wags so hard his butt moves back and forth.
Cat where once worshiped as gods, and will never let you forget it.
Cats are cool.
Black cats are very affectionate, I’m not sure why. In my life, I’ve had about 2 dozen dogs and about a half dozen or so cats (dealt with oodles more of friends, family members’ etc.). Dogs in general are more affectionate than a cat, but it’s because they’re pack animals, and cats are not. Indoors, I’ll take a cat over a dog, any day. (Most/many dogs, for example, must roll in the foulest smelling substance they can find, it’s part of the hunting instinct, no thanks; while cats clean themselves to not smell when catching prey; woohoo). A dog jumping up on you is a sign of an improperly socialized animal (which I know some people like), but their standard level of affection is rewarding to people who like to have a lot of nudging, contact, etc. Cats on the other hand, can be trained all the same, but require a higher level of discipline and devotion in dealing with them. Like I said, I’ve had a number of both, many at the same time, so I don’t say one’s necessarilly “better” than the other, just different.

I'm a bird guy. Never had a dog or cat for a pet. But.. can't understand why anyone would want a cat being as how their fur is pasted with dried cat saliva from the constant licking. Yuck!
