He was “the most interesting man in the world” long before being “the most interesting man in the world” was cool.
Glad to hear it, the Leatherette is kind of scratchy.
Ricardo! Is that you?
No Johnny. I really am running XP SP3.
To tell you the truth I almost committed ritual suicide a few weeks back. Take a minute and follow along.
PC kept shutting down. Couldn’t get it to restart no matter what I did. I’d press the power button, it would start to power up, then click off.
I noticed that the longer it sat off the further along the boot process it got before it clicked off.
I opened the machine and check things out. I noticed a metal bracket laying in the bottom. I pulled the cooling fan tunnel out (the plastic chute that pulls air across the CPU) and found the heat sink leaning out away from the mother board!
Well, the CPU was overheating and shutting down! The plastic bracket that screws on to the mother board had lost two of the ears where the heat sink clips clip on to.
Well, being the mechanically inclined person I am I decided to fix it. Long story longer: I modified the plastic mount. This caused me to have to modify the heat sink because the clips would no long clip to the original places. I cut the heat sink with a hack saw to make room for the clips, etc.
Put it all back together and WHAM! Works like a champ and has been ever since!
How can I give up such a fine, reliable, OLD machine?
Thanks for the link. I’ll check it out.
Also, if you want a laugh, see my somewhat long reply to “Johnny”.
So you're saying...he was interesting even before it was interesting to be interesting....
His awesomeness could be felt from miles away.
He really was Khan.
He was the most interesting man in the world long before being the most interesting man in the world was cool.
So you’re saying...he was interesting even before it was interesting to be interesting....
NOW that’s interesting.
I put my old PCs out to pasture, running Linux as DHCP servers or TFTP servers or something.

He wasn't just interesting, he was awesomely interesting.
So the last time daylight saw the inside of your wallet was 1993. I thought I was cheap. ;)
It’s been longer than that. I only open my wallet in the dark, so I can’t see how broke I am!
There is a good chance the person you got this from has the splitter or adapter still attached to his monitor. If not, it will cost about $10+S&H.
“Khan” has since passed on. Sad.
And you admitted to that on an open forum. Ritual suicide is the only honorable path open to you.
Be honest, you're running Windoze 95, aren't you?
/johnny
That was about three or four PC's ago for me.
Very resourceful. Also, note that the link I sent was a DMS-60 as a joke to those who were on a riff about an upgrade from a DMS-59. It wouldn't work with your video card.
Naugas shed their skins and don’t “die” for us to enjoy their skin.
Please get your facts straight.
I removed some Rougeware from an old Dell Dimension 2400, running XP, SP3. I think it had 2GB of Ram (Maxed Out). Dang, that old PC was still FAST!!!!
Being a PC Tech, If you can’t afford one of my Custom Built PC’s, I’ll steer you into a Good Dell (not the cheap ones), for a nominal fee, of course.
