MODESTO -- A 41-year-old Enochs High School teacher in Modesto has resigned and moved in with an 18-year-old student.
The reaction has been largely shock, disapproval and betrayal.
The teen's mother has waged a very public campaign on Facebook since last week, when her daughter moved out of the family's home and into a Modesto apartment with the man. He has left his wife and children, one of whom is a junior at Enochs.
Modesto police are investigating whether there was inappropriate contact before the girl turned 18 in the fall.
And school district and teachers union officials worry that an ethical and moral line has been crossed, even if the student is legally an adult.

You’re probably right...they deserve each other. The wife got rid of the problem and now the 18 year old has the problem.

The girl lost her father at an early age. I think that has a lot to do with her being infatuation with this teacher. The teacher is a predator and took advantage of the young girl. He also has a responsibility to his wife and children as well as the well being of the students he teaches.
The police should investigate if he had sex with that girl before her 18th birthday.
When I was kicked out by my ex in 1997 after 20 years, and completely out of the blue, I was terrified of the “dating” environment. I was 43 and was getting some interest from a couple of late “twenty somethings”. I was flattered and spent some time talking to them. One invited me to a cabin for the weekend.
But I just could not do it. They were KIDS, for crying out loud! I had NOTHING in common with them. And no, I didn’t so much as hold hands with them...
Then I met my wife at my 25 year class reunion. She’s six days younger than me and we are like best friends, brother and sister, lovers, EVERYTHING to each other. It’s been 14 years now and we’re looking forward to another 36 (our goal is 50 years together, though that takes us out to 94 years old).
Another thing: A young girl that hooks up with an older guy is basically seeing him as a “father figure”. Once they have sex, the seeds of their destruction have been sowed for one simple reason - you can not have sex with the man you see as your father figure. It totally screws up the relationship. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but it will, and it will be fatal to the relationship.
This guy and this girl are gonna seriously regret this.

As a male teacher that teaches a lot of girls that are hurting due to divorce and looking for a father figure, this guy is doing double damage. The girl is mistaking love for her need for a father figure, and the guy is fulfilling his lusts while completely disregarding the real girl in his life, his own daughter.
I hope there’s a special place in hell for him.

If he has been sexually grooming her, she had no chance to mature first.

I don't see my GF as a "mother figure" and I bet younger women dating older men don't either. I'm 26 and my GF is 44. We lived next door to each other and worked out together at the same gym every day-she was my lifting partner and we were friends for a long time before becoming BF/GF. I was in 2 other long term relationships with women my age and this just happened. Never lived in my parents basement, normal relationship with my parents and work for one of the top 3 accounting firms.
14 months later still going strong, physically(yes sex) and emotionally.

Everyone is being terribly judgmental in this thread. This is progressive America. Who are we to judge?
If the lovely couple thinks they’re in love, then they should be allowed to do anything they want. Nothing wrong with whips, chains and dead animals. Master-slave is OK, too, if the young lady wants to do it. Some people realize that life is sweeter as a slave. It makes life a lot simpler, doesn’t it?
If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.
