In one SF weekly I read the account of one illegal in Guatemala:

He’s HIV positive, in Section 8 housing, and his legally-designated care animal is an IGUANA. They’re cold-blooded, right? So his place must be constantly heated to over 90 degrees —that, too, was paid for some weird “heat for po’ folks” welfare thang you and I don’t know about.

Food stamps? Yes. And every other form of welfare you’ve heard of.

Does he go on the tain with the iguana? Yes. Restaurants with the iguana? Yes. Everywhere, cuz if they don’t permit it, they get the pants sued off of them.

“...legally-designated care animal is an IGUANA.”

Any restaurant owner who would cave to that kind of threat deserves to go out of business. Iguanas make the filthiest "pets." An iguana on the loose is a serious health hazard, and the only sane response to someone who wants to bring one inside is to countersue on behalf of the restaurant's customers.

Do you mean he was FROM Guatemala? Hard to imagine any other country - other than European - that would put up with this.
