He’s going to win a grand total of one state tomorrow. One state. His home.

It’s then time to unite the remaining two CONSERVATIVES, Rick & Newt to take down the LIBERALS, Willard & Barack.

I think you nailed it exactly on the head.

“But Rush shot off his mouth and announced that this was “anti-capitalist” and this became the meme and it totally destroyed Gingrich.

“Actually, Gingrich is the only one of the candidates who has treated Rush with courtesy after his recent foot-in-mouth episode, so I’d say Gingrich gets major gentleman points for that!”

I completely agree on both points.

Rush is an entertainer and says anything that flits across his mind. He has become a shock-jock, and I only hope that this latest stupid incident, which has taken national attention off the real issues, will make him sober up.

People look to him for sensible commentary, but I think he stopped giving that some time ago. It’s all bluster and sensation now, and he never thinks about the impact.

Newt Gingrich said a lot of the right things, but he really had a number of things going against him.

1. As a former House Speaker, he was combative and partisan by nature. Those traits make for a great Speaker but weigh against someone who is trying to win a national popularity contest.

2. Related to #1 ... He spent way too much time in his life as an inside-the-Beltway hack who never spent much time (if any) in private industry. This made his attempts to paint himself as an "outsider" completely transparent and phony.

3. Related to #1 and #2 ... He simply doesn't come across as an executive (because he's not). For all of Romney's flaws, he looks and acts like someone who can be in charge of a small-town grocery store, a Fortune 500 company, or the United States of America.

I think it is all the fault of Bush, Limbaugh, Newt’s exs, Santorum, Romney, Ron Paul, Mark Levin, that Savage person, Beck, Will, Hume, Bachmann, my folks, my cats, my folks again, and all the dumb voters, etc; that are unable to see how marvelous Newt is.

“His lack of support for Newt.”

Rush doesn’t endorse candidates.

In my own life, I was the only one who was consistently present when things didn’t go well for me.

As with Newt and all of the other candidates, their shortcomings are their own.

I doubt it. His negatives have been driven too high. He has no sympathizers in the MSM or on FOX. The somewhat conservative vote driven by their ABO prime directive will not return. If Santorum disappeared, Gingrich could pull some votes off Santorum, but he'll only get the most conservative votes. The rest would go to Romney because of ABO panic. Romney's going to take this thing. Now I'm thinking about what Obama is going to do to me in his next term. That's my primary concern. National health care is here as evidenced by the Catholic cramdown with no effective response from the so called opposition Republican party.

I totally agree. None of these guys are perfect, but the blame for why people have particular impressions of them is something they each own.

That’s what I meant. What recovery? His numbers are still where they were. If RCP is to be believed, Romney will win enough delegates tomorrow to get half way to the nomination.

Ding! Ding! There is a group of people that keep shifting from candidate to candidate based upon who is perceived as most likely to beat Obama. They just switched back to Romney, or the group that finds him (or Satan) acceptable. Santorum may not fall as far as predicted as many of these gave up on Newt. If Santorum does really well tomorrow, he might even get them back.

I don’t agree. The chronology involved is wrong. The anti-capitalist events happened after all the attack ads against Newt in Iowa and before the South Carolina primary. If Newt was going to be hurt by that, it would have been in South Carolina. But he won that primary. So I don’t think that statement from Rush had anything to do with Newt’s problems.

After losing South Carolina, Romney killed Newt in Florida. He spent 17 million dollars in ads lying about Newt day and night. Those lies, plus people’s memory of Newt’s past behavior, have caused his problems. Newt talking about humanely helping illegals also did not help here in our state.

So I don’t believe you can blame Newt’s problems on Rush. Can Newt come back? I hope so. I hope both he and Santorum can take votes away from Romney. I hope they both can come to an agreement on a strategy that can defeat Romney.

Newt could be the next Reagan.

How could that be? Newt himself has preached that the era of Reagan is over and that we should not look for another Reagan.

“Newt’s been portrayed as a grumpy old man “

He is a grumpy old man. He’d be the best president. He can’t win since it’s all cosmetic in now-shallow America. We’re so screwed.
