Hello GrannyK!

The free trial is for their cloud. You don’t have to buy that. If you want to use it CrashPlan Free (like me : ), then you can either use it to back up to an external drive or thumb drive, or you can download and install the crashplan software on a second computer either in your home or at a friends house.

You then click invite a friend tab. You both share invites and then you can backup to each others computers! It is encrypted so neither of you see what the other’s computer.

To restore, you install the software on a new computer, then you log into your crashplan account and click restore.

It is fun after you play around with it. I have used Carbonite, Mozy and I use dropbox for smaller files, but CrashPlan is by far my favorite.

Spread the word and get people off of Carbonite.

It is actually a lot of fun to use, plus, now I can feel like I am fighting back.

“This from Carbonite CEO David Friend:

No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady.”

Hopefully Mr. Friends daughters are not the kind of attention seeking gutter trash that Madam Flike is.

Rush simply chose 2 words poorly (really only one word). Everything else he said was 100% accurate.

But the howling undead mobs of liberals smell blood. They won't let this go.

I thought I read he had lost up to 13 advertisers, and a couple of radio stations have dumped him.....anyone else here about that?

Allstate Corp. originally said that they didn’t advertise on Rush Limbaugh. They now say they’ve found out that they purchased “accidental ads”,and would immediately stop running them.
Allstate said on Facebook that it regretted “providing mistaken information”.

"It almost sounds like Carbonite’s owner Mr. Friend had been a sponsor of Rush’s show so that he could make a big splash with some fake indignation at just the right time.

I think it was probably just good business. He probably knows that more small business owner customers can be found listening to Rush than sitting in Starbuck's sending email on their laptops and that those are the people who would have more valuable data storage to protect.

Bottom line is it will hurt the people who bailed and angered the people loyal to Rush a lot more than it will hurt Rush, EIB or Clear Channel.

YEP.

Hi, svcw:

That is incorrect.

I heard a Carbonite ad during Rush’s first commercial break, Monday afternoon (03/05/12).

Thanks! I appreciate your concern and wishes. I really don't have anything worthy of mining, but if I did, I don't believe they are data mining. I checked around and found this guy who stated some pros and cons about CPs encryption. offsite backups.

This is what Crashplan says about their security:

CrashPlan (the free version) uses 128-bit Blowfish to encrypt your files. CrashPlan+ uses 448-bit Blowfish encryption, which is much stronger than the 128-bit encryption that online banking and most businesses use.

Blowfish is an encryption algorithm. It's a freely available, documented, and open method of encrypting data. Being Open is very important. This means that the processes it uses are public and can be tested by everyone and are proven to be secure. Blowfish was invented by a security expert named Bruce Schneier. More information is available online here: http://www.schneier.com/blowfish.html

448-bit is the length of the key. The longer the key, the harder it is to decrypt data.

Put simply, if someone ever accessed your backup archive, both your password and encryption key is needed to decrypt your data.

Security FAQ

I am just providing a better alternative to Carbonite. I don't like their cowardly behavior toward Rush. It is their right to drop him, but it is my right to be able to promote alternatives.

People don't have to use Crashplans cloud (I don't). People use the tool to backup to a friends computer in another neighborhood or state. If you have a tornado or your house burn or a thief, then you can get back your family pictures, videos, your documents, etc. It is your choice. BTW, how do you know they mine the data? Do you have an article or inside information?
