If you’re being sincere, you’re describing night terrors and sleep paralysis, something that has bothered me off and on since childhood. My rational, waking self knows that it’s a strange sort of half dream, half awake state, that the “dream” gets merged with my surroundings at the time, but when you’re there it all flies out the window and is quite scary and exhausting. Mine nearly always take the same form, “it” is in the room or a group of “them” are just outside the window, and if I move they’ll know I’m there and something bad will happen. That leads to being more or less paralyzed in place. An actual sound breaks it, my dog jumping on the bed or the sun coming up does, too.
