Ranch hands tried to run over starving dog for fun

Southern California - Meet Hank - a dog who was abandoned, left to fend for himself and then subjected to abuse by people who should have tried to help, rather than inflict harm.

Hank found himself alone on a ranch in Southern California several months ago.

Some of the workers at the ranch looked to the woebegone dog as a source of entertainment. How, one might wonder, could a stray dog in need of help provide entertainment?

To the individuals who are lacking of a conscience - apparently lacking of a soul - that entertainment came in the form of their vehicles and his body.

According to the woman who rescued Hank, the bored ranch hands would spend their spare time each night by trying to run Hank over with their trucks.

It is impossible to know the fear that Hank felt on those nights - running for his life from crazy people behind the wheel of deadly machinery.

Without a doubt, those moments he survived were filled with sheer terror.

I just had a conversation with a Texan of Mexican descent. We were talking about sick and injured dogs because he had asked for the phone number of my vet. He was telling me how things are done in Mexico and the stories weren’t pretty. Some of those people are cruel and heartless.

How people treat animals shows you what kind of person they are - or aren’t.

I am in a rural area as well. In the last three weeks a mama dog and her 4 pups dropped off AND in a separate incident 3 more pups from another litter. That is a lot of dogs to feed, although three of us are taking care of them (in addition to our own dogs), that’s lots of kibble. One of my silver tongued neighbors is going to the vet in town and wheedle a deal for shots and worming. And maybe throw in a discount spay deal for the mama dog.

Hopefully that will make them a tad more adoptable. They are all pretty good looking pups, but there are no vacancies at the no-kill shelter for that many dogs.

I hate people that dump out pets, for whatever reason.

The people (and I use that term loosely) in the original story best hope that there is no truth in the old adage...you reap what you sow.

They should be dealt with by the Ranch owner in the Old West style.

Hung!

Thank God tho, for the person who rescued this precious animal.

I bet you are right. I have been around ranch people all my life and never heard of any of them doing anything like this. Not even close.

Two of my three dogs I have now have been “drop offs” from people that think their pets will be taken in if they just dump them out in “the country.” It breaks my heart every time I see a new one. And there have been more the past couple of years. I think it's because the economy is so bad but that's just my opinion.

Exactly. Real ranch hands treat animals properly.

Illegal immigrants care no more about animal cruelty law than they do immigration law.

I agree with you 100 per cent. The economy is a big factor.

Talk about fear factor!!!

The breastplate and crop on the Dobie are perfect...and the snake could absolutely pull the trigger.

Are they yours?

(I’m going to have a chat with my Lab about what he might be able to do to earn his keep. If I can wake him up.)

Yeah, they’re some of my crazy kids...:)

Brom seems to prefer jacking the Mossberg more than pulling a trigger apparently....LOL

[we had to take the shotgun down with him clutching it and then unwrap him..he just didn’t want to let it go]

“We had to take the shotgun down with him clutching it”

Kind of gives new meaning to “from my cold, dead hands...err coils.”

The Dobie is a beaut!

I have no doubt that “what goes around, comes around,” and in this case, I would like to be a fly on a wall when it happens to the ranch hands.
