Awesome!

I’m going to watch “Blood Waters of Dr. Z” to really get the lowlife vibe.

Thannx all. Public shaming used to be effective for miscreant or immoral behavior, not so sure now. Remorse and repentance are foreign topics to people these days, so I think shaming causes more harm than good, and is probably interpreted as bullying by young skulls full of mush.

Hopefully, this child will learn the lesson, but judging by how y'all described the mom's appearance and demeanor, it sounds more vindictive than teaching.

Sounds like the “store” pressed charges, though, or at least the local police. This went beyond a handshake agreement (i.e., “apologize”), apparently, so maybe this woman felt little choice. Maybe she didn’t know until the police served them.

Momma Wide-Load should have stayed away from the Amish, it appears.

According the to video she had to pick up her daughter at the police station. That surprises me because I would have thought they would have called her to come to the store if she was placed under arrest. It may be the store’s policy to press charges against all shoplifters to discourage it and nothing against her daughter. However if she was “old school” as some of here on FR are she still could have later taken her daughter back to the store and made the child apologize and offer to pay for the item telling the manager that she is trying to teach the child better. Honestly with the “not my kid” mentality going around I would like to think that some store managers would welcome that rather than have to appear in court.

Horrible advice, or at least advice thirty years out of date. Never put anyone into the legal system these days unless you really want to screw them over

well, the mother is an adult and she can wear whatever she wants, at least she's covered up....

I think she's trying to be a good mother....she has to be strict because she is the kids only parent....

good for her...

looks the girl understands the severity of what she did....

the girl and her friends are having a big laugh about the shirt.....

why do people jump on parents who at least TRY to discipline their kids?....the mothers shirt or her obesity is NOT the issue....she's got 4 kids to raise by herself....

OK so now its my turn to comment. First and formost to the ones that agreed with my decision thank you for your support. For those of you who are more worried about what I am wearing instead of the point of the story let me simply remind you that this wasn't a dating segment or contest for who dressed the best. It was strictly for MY daughter to realize that there are consequences when you break the law. Now for those comments about if I work so that she didn't have to steal, the day that she went to JAIL I had been at work since 8am and wasn't scheduled to get off till about 1am. I had to leave at 7 due to a phone call I recieved saying that my youngest child was being arrested. YES I work I have worked since I was 16 to support myself and my family. I wasn't privileged like most by having parents I could call upon when in need. My father passed away when I was young and my mother abandoned me and my 3 brothers when we were even younger. So the answer to your question is YES I work and have been working all my life. My daughter did /does know right from wrong but like most kids she got curious and wanted to see if she could get away with it, well she didn't and Ill be the first to thank God that she was caught so that we could end this just as quick as it started. Since you all saw this segment I am going to assume that you watch the news and I am pretty sure you see where our generation of kids are heading. The first thing society is quick to say is “well where were the parents”. Well you can't ask that about me because I am there day in and day out. I am the one that wakes up every morning making sure that they have all they need for school. I am the one who ask them EVERYDAY how was school, do you have homework. I am the one who goes to all the games that they participate in. I am the one that gives them rewards for doing the right thing. Therefore it is me who will decide what the consequences are for her actions. What you all failed to realize because it wasn't stated in the news report was that she had $11 dollars in her pocket. So you all are entitled to your opinion but just know that I made these children so I'm going to raise these children w/ or w/othe support of how I do it. What if told you that my son was acting up in school and I embarrased him by going to sit in his classroom like I was his classmates and ever since then the teachers have told me that he is a different person a its in a good way. So although I do appreciate ALL of your opinions and comments, I will continue to raise them the way that I have been doing and I will enjoy watching as each one of my children walk across the stage as they graduate from COLLEGE and move on to begin their lives as the smart, educated, well mannered adults that I, MYSELF raised them to be!

It sounds to me like you’re doing the right thing by your daughter (and your other children). Parents need to find effective discipline measures for *their* children because no one discipline method is 100% effective on 100% of children. Keep up the good work, Mom!

I took the liberty of breaking down your post into paragraphs for ease of reading:

I’m glad you could post.

Personally, yes, I think it’s not the best to wear that particular shirt in this situation (especially on TV). However, I have no problem with the punishment.

Occasionally we’ve had stories like this pop up here. Most of the time people applauded the mother’s choice of discipline. There was a woman in TX who made her daughter stand on the street with a sandwich sign about how bad she was in school or some such. I think another was her son the thief. I only sometimes saw posts worrying about humiliating the “child”. This thread has more than usual.

I guess if murdered is missing, sure. He was murdered a few years ago and she’s got four kids to bring up.
