A year after the world’s most famous talk-show host hung up the towel on her solo act, Oprah Winfrey is finding the behind-the-scenes work is far less glamorous.
Winfrey’s OWN cable network, part owned by Discovery Communications (DISCA: 48.18, -0.15, -0.31%), could lose as much as $143 million this year, on top of the $107 million of negative cash flow it booked in 2011, according to SNL Kagan.
The bleak view comes despite efforts by the network to cut costs, including letting go 30 employees -- or 20% of its staff -- earlier this week and canceling Rosie O'Donnell's show on low ratings.

Basing all your hopes for success on a Rosie O’Donnel hate show is not what I’d call a financially sound decision.
I would LOVE to see that! Can you just see the heads exploding on the left? OTOH, there would be such coordinated effort to block sponsers...if he could get past that he’d be set.
Oprah, Put something on that people want to see! Get your Pal Obama to come on the station! Put on some wild people right and Left—Beck, Buchanan, Donhue, Get something lively going. People want a circus! Give them something for everyone.
How about a show on The KKK? The White Power Hour! Or a show on The Hammer and Star—workers of the world program. Or Black Panther Hour. A Tabloid network that would have psychics (Ms. Brown) Ufologists, arc hunters, Crypto-zoologists, Give people something to think about—argue about and talk about at the water cooler.
Never watched her but get the gist of her rants and frankly I think people are just getting tired of it, sorta like the kid who cried wolf.
all she has to do is buy some solar panels and Obama will give here a bail out..
