We have them here in MA now too although no officials will admit it publicly.
One was hit in CT on the Meridith Parkway. It was tracked back to South Dakota.

Last summer it was confirmed black bears in Dexter which is only about 15 miles from Ann Arbor.

I’m in CT about ten miles from the MA line and my wife and I saw one last July. There were three other sightings that week in the area.
