IIRC, the audio of Zimmerman's call to 911 indicated he watched Trayvon enter the pass through between buildings and then lost sight of him.

That's probably where Zimmerman turned around and began walking back to his car when he was caught from behind, knocked down from a single punch by Trayvon then his head was slammed into the sidewalk several times, leaving him bloody and battered.

Whether there are security cameras in this area is unclear, but it was definitely alluded to with the video report link from Ann Curry's interview.

For a birds-eye view of the location, use a real estate search engine like Zillow or Google earth and locate:

He lost sight of him and there he was again coming up from behind. Seems he’s the one doing the following. Did he say he was staring at him - couldn’t understand that.

No, the story says approached from behind, then they exchanged words, then Martin punched Zimmerman in the nose (all this is according to Zimmerman, but it fits the facts).
