I assumed the genetics would be so bad for those odd colors, I didn’t even ask. How sad. :o[
To me, it’s heartbreaking.
Sometimes I wish I didn’t know all this stuff.
I’d probably be happier.
If you ever decide to get one, get a B/T or take a look at Arbooz’s red Dobe and pick one that’s a deep, rich red like that.
[and never, EVER get an “Albino”...worlds of trouble, there]
I’ve had 4 reds and 3 were the color of milk chocolate and one bitch was the color of dark chocolate.
She was *so* dark most people mistook her for a B/T.
They were all disgustingly healthy, had wonderfully thick coats and lived to be very old.
Arthur The Ancient One got his nickname because he was almost 15 when he suddenly died.
An elderly couple wanted me to take their blue male and when I went to see him, I asked how old he was, assuming, by his looks, he had to be at least 10 and possibly afflicted with demodoctic mange.
He was *3* and the “mange” was a terrible skin infection on all his bald spots.
I couldn’t take him because I simply couldn’t afford all the medical bills I knew he was going to be racking up right away.
[my Dobe rescue was totally funded out of my own pocket and I didn’t have nearly enough to take on that project]
Thankfully, after I told them what he needed, as far as food, supplements and skin ointments, they decided to keep him.
