Matt Lauer to stay with 'Today,' signs new deal

Matt Lauer is sticking with NBC's "Today," ending speculation that the top-rated show might have to face ABC's rising "Good Morning America" without him.

Lauer planned to announce Friday on the air that he has signed a long-term contract to remain as co-host of the No. 1 morning show, NBC News spokeswoman Megan Kopf said Thursday.

Although "Today" is on a historic winning streak in the ratings, "Good Morning America" has been gaining ground.

Lauer's decision provides important stability for "Today" and puts to rest suggestions that he might reunite with his former co-host, Katie Couric, on the syndicated show she's launching this fall.

Lauer said last May that he had discussed joining with Couric on a new venture. But he predicted then that he would be staying at "Today" for "a long time."

‘Today’ hasn’t been worth a damn since Willard Scott left the program. I couldn’t give a hoot in Hell about Matt Lauer.

Sarah Palin, as last week’s Today show guest host, once again proved the media has been very confused and wrong about her.

I read he’ll get something like 30 million a year.
What in h*ll makes this character worth 30 mil???

Also read he doesn’t want Ann Curry as his co-host, so she’s going to be out.

Yeah...that I can believe. When I was a kid (long time ago) I remember my mother watching TODAY with Dave Garroway and a chimp. Yes...a chimp. Good to see that the intelligence of the people on programs like this hasn’t improved. Bad news is...they sometimes vote.

This show should lose ALL it's viewers and advertisers since they can not stop blatantly LYING and DECEIVING the public!

I mean WTF, are people just going to allow them to keep deliberately fabricating news and still watch?

Oh, thank God, thank God, thank God!

I haven't been able to sleep for weeks until now.

Lauer gives hope to girly-men everywhere that they too can succeed.

$25M/yr? As I used to say about Katie Couric when she intoned, oozing sincerity and empathy, her concern for the poor and downtrodden - her driver has a driver. Maybe Matt Lauer’s driver’s driver, has a driver.
