My 10 year old son has caught the Titanic bug. Asked for a Titanic model this last Christmas, and must have asked me a thousand questions about the ship. He also has drawn some pretty impressive pictures of it and built it with Legos.
I got a better idea. Get U-571 to torpedo it coming out of Southampton docks.
I have built several models over the years, my last one was a couple of years ago and I have a huge kit up on my shelf, massive big model kit with all the fine photo etch railing details.
I might just make a diorama with it bow down and the stern in the air on a waterline display, maybe passengers in the water, lights flickering, funnel falling over. I have seen modelers who have done the two part smashed wreck on the ocean floor, totally creepy. Right down to the debris field.
Here- this might make it better:

A friend of mine was thinking about assembling a Titanic model, cutting it so it was stern-up at an angle. We went to a model shop, inquired about such a model and were told “I think that line has gone down...”
Ditto. Exactly what I was thinking. That popinjay reminded me of being at work.
Yes, kewl graphics though.
the real tragedy is that the media is drowning in cameron’s stupid fictional love sotry, adn ignoring the much more poignant, factual “Night to Remember” (Walter Lord). when they do mention NTR, they usually disparge it.
all that dicaprio crap takes away from the real tragedy, denegrates it, and innures us into a ‘fiction as fact’ mentality. you know? fake but accurate.
That was excellent!
