I don’t pretend to be a coffee connoisseur but all this argle-bargle about “the best cup of coffee in the world” reeks of yuppie snobbism. And as always when someone is putting on airs, there’s someone around willing to take their money to let them do it. Starbucks and all the rest of those coffee chains have built empires on the vanity of gullible people.

I won't disagree - but the CEO is spot on about the French Press making a great cuppa. But, it's a process

Grind beans
Boil water
Put water and beans in press
Wait
Depress plunger
Pour in cup

Been doing it for 25 years. Recently have figured out about using left overs - add some ovaltine and milk - Voila! mocha.

“I had 6 cups of coffee in 90 minutes. Man that was good. Buzzed for the rest of the day too. And the girl was French-Polynesian.

Wow. that’s a strong memory. I can still remember the flavor 30 years later. Thanks for the reminder.”

Do. Not. Ask.

My first cup of Kona from a French press was at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort in Kailua Hawaii.

One of the most divine places on the planet and a commensurate cup of coffee.

After years of trial and error I developed the reciepe for the best cup of coffee ever. Here goes:

use whole beans and create a blend of 2 parts peruvian beans to 1 part dark costa-rican roast beans. (ie. two peruvian beans for every dark costa-rican bean) Grind them fresh using medium grind. Brew the coffee using a french press. Voila - you are in java heaven.

I roast my own beans, and while it’s true you’ll get a better cup with a french press, you have to have the time for it. Personally, I’m just fine with a drip coffeemaker, but pretty much draw the line with letting it sit on a burner. It’ll keep better in a thermos-type carafe.

You are to funny. If you want to drink coffee not at STBX don’t.
However, your characterizations of STBX are just wrong. They have their process of growing, roasting and brewing if don’t like it don’t go there.

“In my little world, when I’d like a cup of coffee, I order “A Cup of Coffee”. Maybe “One Cream”, if it appeals. And the waitress/waiter/person behind the bar gives me a mug with coffee in it. That’s all. Keep it simple, IMHO.”

I am largely with you when ordering on the road, BUT, I do like to expand that to ‘make that a red-eye’ or, ‘a double shot in the dark’.

Coffee beans. What a remarkable blessing!

Because they burn their beans.

No doubt, which also destroys most of the caffene. Lighter roasts have more actual flavor, and pack a better punch. I've never understood the allure of espresso, as it has almost all the good things in coffee burned out of it, and it tastes like crap.

On occasion you do find these out of the way places. Off the I70 in Evergreen, Utah there is an indie gas station and they make coffee that tastes like you are drinking velvet. The 20oz cup is about $1.10. I stop there every time I go past that godforsaken town, that gas station and the coffee are their only redeeming value.

Espresso does not have to be a very dark roast like Italian or Spanish. There are lighter roasts used as espressos and they make a very different drink. It is more of a European thing, but it is spreading here too.

I don’t care for Starbucks. I like flavored coffee, and like to grind my own, so I buy whole bean. Get my coffee from Jelks in New Orleans.

STBX does not burn their beans.
Most people roast to one pop, STBX till two and Pete’s till three.

What’s funny here is YOU.

You’re defensive - attacking anyone who speaks ill of your beloved STBX. And your condescension telling.

I don’t consume STBX. I’ve found better. Much better. My coffee shop is owned and operated by Christian conservatives - locally owned, family operated small business - the backbone of America’s economy.

Oh good grief, your willingness to attack STBX says more about you than me trying to give you correct information.
Enjoy your coffee, I do not care where you go, however if you are going to trash STBX at least have your facts correct.
Just like liberals who attack WalMart should have their facts correct.

Dude . . .

We are talking about coffee, and people’s personal tastes for beverages. Keep some perspective.

Oh please - you’re giving OPINION, now claiming that to be FACT.

Go ahead - give your money to a godless, liberal corporate behemoth. I’ll keep spending my coffee dollars with a local shop, with conservative, Christians who live & also spend money into the local economy.

Have a nice day, and enjoy shilling swill.

>>>Keep some perspective.

My perspective is fine. I’m spending my coffee dollar with a great, local business, while someone else is shilling corporate, godless, and in my opinion - lesser quality product. They’re making their choice - and I’m making mine.

-—Do you mean the pie of the mid to late 80’s? If you do that pie was amazing. I Can’t imagine why it ever went away.-—

Yep. It was bubbly on the outside. It went away because of the food police. It was fried in animal fat, or something.

Now it’s baked. Surprisingly good, but a shadow of its former self. 8-(

I wondered what was wrong with it.

That is a crying shame. It may have been the best McDonald’s product ever made.

Posts #40 and #42 nailed it!

We have brewed with Chemex pots since 1973 and have just recently added an AeroPress. Both make the best coffee hands down...use Eight O'Clock Eyetalian Dark Roast and it is brewed or pressed perfection served daily!
