AZUSA (CBS) Police say a woman in Azusa was riding her bicycle into cars on purpose so she could pressure drivers into giving her money.
One of the motorists called police after the 20-year-old woman was found crawling out from underneath their car near East Arrow Highway and South Azusa Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The woman fled and officers found her nearby. Paramedics treated her for some scratches and officers issued her a citation for alleged hit-and-run.
Azusa police said the suspect, Celina Pangburn, of Azusa, also tried to pull the same stunt a few hours earlier on a driver a few blocks east of Hollenbeck Avenue.
The case will reportedly be reviewed by the L.A. County District Attorneys office to see if further action will be taken.
In my experience, it depends where you live.
Where I live now, in the Czech Republic, no way, no how, would I ride a bike in auto traffic. Czechs regard any and all traffic laws as infringements on their absolute freedom to barrel down city streets at 75 MPH and play “dodge the pedestrians”.
Now, Berlin Germany? No problem! It’s actually a pleasure to ride a bike there. I knew an 85 year old Jesuit brother who would ride his bike about five miles per day (weather permitting, of course), and he never had any problems, nor did I for that matter. Berlin drivers are very mindful of bicyclists.
At my University we have some of these nitwits. One time I was making a right turn and a feminine male bicyclist (Anyone who has been on a college campus recently knows the type) crossing the street decided to try and zip in front of me. I waited till he was almost in front of me before laying on the horn. This caused him to fall right off his bike in front of me. I then gave the car a little gas to make it jump forward a bit and revved the engine nice and loud (Have a manual. prob burned the clutch a bit but it was worth it). The sissy screamed like a little b**** and ran off the street.
I then politely rolled down my window and informed him that I am in a 1+ ton vehicle and he is 100 pounds of skin and bone and to be more careful around cars next time.
He then flicked me off and said “F*** you” at which point I stopped the car and got out but he had taken off by that point.
I hate bicyclists.
