Rush has mentioned this incident a few times over the years and he has repeatedly referred to it as a “training accident.” Always grates my nerves.
Just saw the Tom Selleck movie about Ike and D Day on the Mil Channel last night. They dealt with this disaster but pawned it off on a US Division commander, they didn’t say if it was 4th,29th,or 1st. Ike is portrayed as having zero knowledge of the operation until the bodies start washing up on the beach.
