She used to stalk our feet like they are little mice and go to town, not playful, but like she was trying to rip meat off the bone.

My grandparents had a cat that did the same thing. It would have been kind of cute if he hadn't been so intense about it. I'd guess that most cat psychologists have seen this behavior a thousand times and know its causes.

I have eight cats and two dogs.

Kittens and young cats are always looking for someone to play with, usually roughly, and it would be another cat or cat-sized dog.

When we brought home our English Springer Spaniel puppy, she played with two similiar sized kittens we had rescued. Once the puppy grew to about 20 lbs., the cats avoided her but our adult Pointer, who was cat neutral, became the puppy’s playmate.

What I’m saying is this: get another cat or kitten. They will keep each other entertained and come to you for pets particularly if you provide yummy treats.

Inherited a cat when I married my ex-wife. She had him for four years and she went batsh@t crazy when after three days he would jump on to my lap and fall asleep. She couldn't even pick him up and place him on her lap without getting bit, hard. When I came home after playing tennis he would love to lay at my feet and lick the salt off my ankles and if I dared move before he was done, I got a quick playful nip.

I should have fought to keep him after the divorce and I will regret that to my dying day.

You mean the cat inherited you.

I confess - yes, I am owned. Seems rather ridiculous doesn’t it. Kind of like the kids, she does understand the word “No” but on a very selective basis. I keep a roll of toilet paper on the floor of the office - she loves to destroy it and that generally keeps her busy for quite a while. At least she doesn’t have front claws!

Thanks for the suggestion - I’ll get a can just for her. Hope they come supersized.

bounce him off the wall a few times, gently of course. Like another freeper said, maybe he senses female in heat in the neighbor and is frustrated

He is being over stimulated by the petting. Stop petting him while in your lap. Simple really...he wants to snuggle and cuddle...not petted.

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.

Well the first thing ya need to do is get out of his chair, my cats only allow me to sit in the floor at their feet.

My cat (Little Killer) does the same thing but never out of the blue. She only attacks when I break her #1 rule – never disturb her, in any way, when she’s comfortable. She defines “disturb” as my moving any body part when she is on or beside me.

Your house is haunted. The cat picks up on it and freaked out. I would move.

I had a cat that acted like that once. She had distemper. I would consult a vet.
