Does a mort-gage tell you how long you have left to live?

I heard that the word mortgage origninated from the phrase death gamble. If you died before you were paid off the debt extinguished with you. Not sure if that is accurate.

The dictionary says “dead pledge.” I don’t know the terms of medieval banking. They didn’t cover that at CMU. ;-)
