US should return stolen land to Indian tribes, says United Nations
The Guardian ^ | 5/4/2012 | Chris McGreal

A United Nations investigator probing discrimination against Native Americans has called on the US government to return some of the land stolen from Indian tribes as a step toward combatting continuing and systemic racial discrimination.

James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, said no member of the US Congress would meet him as he investigated the part played by the government in the considerable difficulties faced by Indian tribes.

Anaya said that in nearly two weeks of visiting Indian reservations, indigenous communities in Alaska and Hawaii, and Native Americans now living in cities, he encountered people who suffered a history of dispossession of their lands and resources, the breakdown of their societies and "numerous instances of outright brutality, all grounded on racial discrimination".

Discussion of religious questions now banned at UN Human Rights Council

Snip: The speaker, David Littman, was interrupted by no fewer than 16 points of order and the proceedings of the Council were suspended for forty minutes when the Egyptian delegate said that “Islam will not be crucified in this Council” and attempted to force a vote on whether the speaker should be allowed to continue.

Is this the same UN that traded canned food to poor women for sex?
Is this the same UN that places murdering butchers in their “Human Rights” counsels?
Is this the same UN that when their own people called for help as African rebbels surrounded their compound...they didnt send help for 2 days...and when they arrived, found their own people slaughtered...?
That UN?

is this the UN under Koffi Annan aided Saddam to trade OIL
for Weapons of War? whoops! I mean “Oil for Food” and Koffi’s son set up a false front to skim off Millions?

That UN?

Hey UN....Piss off.

I say the Alaskan tribes should demand they get ANWR as compensation and then drill the daylights out of it!

I’ve got a better idea. All people of Arab descent need to return to Saudi Arabia, and all people sold into slavery by Arab slave traders should have claim on all Saudi property.

Italians owe the Jewish people an apology for destroying their temple, occupying their land, and selling them into slavery.

Maybe the UN Nations should give back to Israel the land they have been taking form them. Send hamas back to Jourdan where they came form. Moses led the Israelis through Saudi Arabia for 40 years before there were any Arabs so maybe Saudi Arabia should be given to Israel.

White people never stole a square foot of land from the Indians. It was acquired legally by the rules of real estate transfer then in effect and honored by both Europeans and Indians; conquest.

I suggest the UN should dig up Andy Jackson, reanimate him, and see what he says when they tell him they have made their decision...

“Indians came from Asia and didn't claim it. Why should they own it now?”
——————————————————————————————Correct. American Indians had no concept of land ownership.

Obummer will agree to it before the end of December. Then we will also give back Texas and new Mexico to Mexico.

Perhaps we should start with a piece of land on Manhattan Island along the East River.

“that was paid for fair and square.”

He’s referring to the UN building.

Who does the land belong to?

Stone-age Europeans were the first to set foot on North America

Considering how often they fought wars against each other over it, I doubt that, at least for the more settled tribes. Sure, nomadic societies might not put a great deal of value on land, but hardly all Indian tribes were nomads.

Two weeks?........Well with such in depth study how could you doubt him?

------------------------------------------------------

It's not the time spent on the investigation, it's the stark contrast between the conditions he witnessed on the reservations and those he experienced in the Presidential Suite of the 5 Star hotels with world class room service he stayed on during his 2 week trip, the 4 Star restaurants he dined in during his 2 week trip , the first class cabin of the air liners he flew on during the 2 week trip, and , of course, the stretch Limos with the wet bar stocked with premium booze that he was chauffeured around in during his 2 week trip.

He was particularly appalled at the fact those poor folks on the reservation were forced to drink malt liquor while he drank the 21 year old premium blend Scotch Whiskey from the wet bar of the limo and that he was provided with pharmaceutical grade cocaine during the 2 week trip while the Indians had to make do with bathtub cooked methamphetamine. Stark contrasts indeed.

For the record, he was very relieved that the $4000 a night hookers he was provided with for companionship along the way during the 2 week trip were a lot better looking and a lot less obese than women he saw on the reservations.

But now that you mention it, he did not really have time to fully asses the situation in an in depth and meaningful way.

To rectify this oversight, he is immediately demanding that the Obama Administration provide him with a second grant of another million or so dollars so he can follow up with a more in depth and comprehensive study.

"Securing the rights of indigenous peoples to their lands is of central importance to indigenous peoples' socioeconomic development, self-determination, and cultural integrity," Anaya said.
