In politics, if you think fewer reporters will show up, you change your setting to a smaller location, cozier. Easier to pack, and crowd noise seems so much louder. Camera angles are scoped out early and fixed.
Otherwise, your candidate may be speaking to an empty arena.

Yeah, but Obama cannot do smaller. Remember Germany and Denver with the columns. Going small will deflate him like a dirigible.
