FREEPORT, Pa. - An Armstrong County library had to get police involved to get four overdue books returned from a 4-year-old girl.
Freeport Area Library Board President Donna Michael said the books had been out since Oct. 19, or 240 days and $81.60 in fines.
Michael said she had no choice but to get police involved after two phone calls, a postcard and three letters failed to get the books returned.

One can never start training youngsters too soon that the power of the government is absolute and is to be feared. Early training/beating/tasering goes a long way toward making a good and compliant proletariat!
That’s outrageous.
I hope it was a good book at least.
I guess I read the story a little differently. It seems to me that when someone checks out library books (in this case, the mother, not a four-year old) and keeps them for 7 months, the items cease being overdue and become stolen. The police arrived to compel this irresponsible mom to return the property she had essentially stolen from the library. She should consider herself lucky.
If I walk out of Barnes and Noble with books that I stole for my toddler, the police wouldn't show up at my door asking me to return them. They'd show up at my door with handcuffs.
Hahaha,
I wish our admin would get on board with stricter rules.
When someone takes off with a $1000 dollars worth of my tax payer DVDs, I want them back.
Right. now, if you don't bring your stuff back after a few weeks, we send a bill for the items, plus fees. The bought the things.
Oh oh! A four year old against the Freeport, PA Police Dept. Let’s see, she already has a higher IQ than the entire force, cuz she can actually read a book. The Freeport Police Dept still can’t locate downtown Freeport on the map, so I don’t think the’ll be able to locate this little criminal. Who knew Freeport had a library, unless you consider the magazine rack at the local market a library?
Any book you return, you’d better get a receipt complete with titles listed. These incompetent boobs will more than likely lose the books and have you “SWAT teamed”.
You should love your police state.
Not too long ago the library claimed I hadn’t returned a book. I had to find it on the shelf and show them the individual number to demonstrate that I had indeed returned it.
That's the key here. The cops didn't care about the library book. They both wanted to be the one to shoot the dog.
When they got the call, they both thought, "Dog!"
As officer Toody would say to Muldoon, "Ooh! Ooh!"
